"Americans want divided government"
This claim, made by various pundits has always confused me :sarcasm:

I've often wondered, How exactly does that work. How do these people make their decision at the polling place? Do they throw dice, darts, or cut cards for one selestion and just choose the opposite party for the other branch. Because if they primarily want divided government, then that makes as much sense as any other.

2. bunch of horseshit.
Always has been. More compelling story than "Joe Blow votes Dem but decided he liked the R for the Senate race this year".

3. No Rethugs and their hacks dreamed of 20 years of
Rethug domination of Congress and the Executive are terrified with reality. They will lose all of the power they abused with impunity.

4. That's so obviously bullshit, it's not funny
The nation has watched over the last 8 years what a mess the nation has become. They want a government that gets things done. They would have been perfectly fine with a Repub majority if they would have actually DONE something. They'll be fine with a Dem majority as long as we DO something. That's what it's all about.

13. I'd venture to guess if those "right things" are good for the nation
that's all the matters. The reason they didn't care for the Repub majority was because they didn't DO ANYTHING for the nation other than create more debt.

14. Exactly
I absent mindedly hit "post" before I had typed my message.

I am simultaneously writing a paper on Louis Brandeis for my graduate Con Law class. And in that vein I would say that ethics are key. ethics and community values.

8. Ha ha - that's EXACTLY what I want. But I DO know, or have worked around people
who say they don't want either party to control all 3 (pres, Senate, and House). Hell, I want us to ALWAYS control all 3!

7. It all depends on which party is doing well in the polls
If the Democrats are up, we want to ensure the the checks and balances our nation's founders put in place remain inviolate from corruption or personal agendas.

If the Republicans are up, we don't want a divided government because now we can really get things done for the good of the nation. :sarcasm:

I can't wait for this to be over.

10. Its an appeal to the ignorant
The message appeals to the average un-thinking person who wants a limit on government power. What they don't realise is that over the past 100 years in this country the FEW times we have had real progressive change in the way our government goes about things has come with one party being in power of both branches of government (Repubs or Dems).
