while they still lived in the same address since the last election?
I ask, because, in the 12 years since I was old enough to vote, I always voted in the same location, Monroe Public Elementary School. The only change would be whether I would go into the library or the gym depending on which voting booths were available. There was, at most, a 30 minute wait, and the school was more than equipped to deal with the voters, the gym was large, and the library, just recently, was expanded, so even it could handle more voters. I know the gym itself had several voting booths in it, and the school even stayed open during the vote in the daytime, the kids just didn't have PE and were restricted in the library.
Oddly enough, I went to this same elementary school when I was a kid, and I remember voting days since I was about 6 years old, in this same location.
But this year is different, apparently they must have redrawn the lines, and while we have had a population explosion over the past 6 years or so in this county, in 2006, I still voted at the school and, as far as I can tell, there were no problems, a small line, but then again, it was a mid-term election.
This year, in a little less than a week, I'll be voting in a church I'm not familiar with, we have only one mega church in the area, way out in O'Fallon, and most churches are rather small in this area. I worry about how long the lines are going to be, and how long it will take to vote. A part of me is nervous because I never voted in a church before, I feel like somehow that is wrong.
I just don't know of any church in this area that would be equipped to deal with voters, especially if the turnout this time around is much greater than the last few election cycles. I'm going to go in early, before I have to go to work, but I hope the wait isn't too long.
