I kind of miss The Little General. (For those who don't remember Perot, his "giant sucking sound" was America's economy, and jobs, going south of the border.)

1. Closest this country ever came to a fascist takeover
Ross would've been one freaky ass president. And we would be far worse off now than what we got from Dubya.

3. Ya really think so? He would've reformed campaign/election funding
and was just cooky enough to actually try to do some good things and make government honest. He was against NAFTA and he was 100% right!

But yeah, the whole CIA at his daughter's wedding sank his Loveboat.

4. Nuts. Dangerously nuts. Not without his charms, but essentially nuts

He takes on the occasional good cause. But then look at all the good Hitler did: supported development of the Volkswagen, built up strong unions, applied Keynesian principles to fight inflation & end unemployement. That doesn't ameliorate being evil and crazy and evil yet again.

Ross is useful in the universal scheme of things. But as president he'd've been capable of anything and empowered to act out his looniest impulses. Plus there's a real nasty streak of control freak in him that would lead him, step by step, toward introducing police state tactics into American politics. At least it took a genuine terrorist attack to get GW Bush the authority to go full Patriot on the Bill of Rights. Ross Perot was a 9/11 unto himself--I'd believe a MIHOP theory about Ross.

5. He's obsolete.
These days, his giant sucking sound is being produced by the Republican ticket.
