Yes, I understand why the campaign has to concentrate on taxes. Voters hate taxes, and they are either too lazy, or too selfish or too dumb to stop and ask: wait a minute. How are government functions funded?
When hurricanes hit the Gulf, when tornadoes hit the Midwest, when there are floods and drought in different parts of the country, and fires in California (OK, I guess most of these citizens could not care about California) - from where does the government draw funds to help them?
How are our roads and bridges, our water supplies, the safety of products, food and drugs assured?
When you lost your jobs, your home, your nest egg, and you come calling for help from the government - how do you think such help can be offered?
Yes, I know. YOU don't need help. Just wait. As you are getting older and cannot hold on to the way you are making a living, you'll see.
I do hope that once we gain control of both the White House and Congress, that we should embark on important PR campaign to show the good that a government can do. Not just national security, but how we help individuals in their own towns and homes.
Mostly, I hope that we have learned our lesson from 1994, when we lost our majority because of too many corrupt Congressional leaders who forgot that they are there to serve us, the people, not their cronies and their retirements.
Yes, we've had our share of cronyism. Power corrupts.
