Republicans For Obama...
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 12:48 PM by kentuck
All we have at the present time is anecdotal evidence, but after this election is over, we may discover that one of the biggest surprises of the election was how many declared Republicans voted for Barack Obama. After years of division in this country, and most of it created for intentional political gain, we may have a leader that can bring this country together. And who would have guessed that it would be a black man that would unite this country?

And that will be no small accomplishment. With the critical condition this country is now in, it will be impossible to tackle these issues if we are not united. An impossible economic situation with the banks. Two wars going on at the same time we are charging it to the credit card. And the national debt now over $10 trillion dollars. It's an impossible task and history or fate has chosen Barack Obama to lead us in these troubled times. It is a story of movies and myths.

But the Republicans that support Barack Obama should be given all the credit in the world. They did not buy into the Limbaugh and Rove propaganda, as they have done so many times in the past. They are equally as concerned as many of our Democratic brethren are concerned about the direction of our country. We will have to work together. We will have no choice.

1. I know several Republicans who are voting for Obama
Some of them I've always considered hard core Republicans. I was shocked to hear my brother was voting for Obama. He at least used to be a Rush Limbaugh fan.

2. The Rational wing of the GOP started coming over when Dean ran in 2004

I remember a lot of them jumping ship to support Dean.

Many stayed in the party and got their friends to come over with Obama.

3. I have been feeling the same
Whenever one of my right wing friends, or any winger for that matter, give me the "I can't believe Obama could be elected" shit, I fire back that if elected Obama will owe a debt to the many smart and brave republicans who knew the obvious.

4. I know two groups of Republicans
The first group is educated, do not watch Faux or listen to hate radio. They have questioned Bush and didn't vote for him in 2004, though they didn't broadcast this information. However, this year the selection of Palin as VP has galvanized them into action--they are emailing friends and speaking out FOR Obama. I expect if the GOP keeps going the way it is going, these folks will become Democrats.

The second group is less educated, watch Faux, and are racists. A lost cause.
