Remembering election night 1992, USA and a wave of blue
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 07:38 AM by texpatriot2004
In 1992 I was a college student. I volunteered with the Clinton-Gore campaign. I was in the political minority on campus as a Democrat. The Republicans, the "compassionate conservatives" as they like to call themselves were spewing hate and lies then too. They liked to boast about their "family values" while Neil Bush was caught up in the S&L scandal. I remember a huge sign we made on campus "Family Values: George teach Neil not to steal." Anyway, the Republicans kept telling me every chance they got that Clinton has "no chance in hell" of being elected. To which I responded, "we will see" and I kept working doing everything I could to do my part to support Clinton-Gore.

So, on election night, we gathered at the coffee shop on campus to watch the results. The Republicans were cocky, and cracking jokes about Clinton and the Democrats. Their demeanor changed drastically as the results came in. I remember it was a wave of blue. This state for Clinton, this state for Clinton, Clinton takes _______________ state, Bush (Sr) got one state, then Clinton got five more. I am not being exact here in my description but I hope you get the picture. I will never forget this wave of blue.

I hope to see it in 2008 too.

1. I remember what a great night that was...
But I can just imagine how great it was to be on a college campus that night!

3. Sharing That Night With My Little Girl...
She was 7 years old and very curious about the election (having me around surely didn't help). On Election Night, she had her own little map she was coloring in as the states were reporting and getting excited as Clinton won more and more states. I can still hear her saying "Is this a good state, daddy?". Today, she's a college grad, married and a very proud Obama supporter.

In retrospect, I look back at that election with mixed emotions. It felt great sweeping that night, but the victory felt hollow...that the repugnicans had been subdued by not vanquished. While Democrats were winning the night, the wrong repugnicans were winning...the more rabbid ones. Hopefully this year, we will enjoy a total victory.

Cheers and thanks for the fond memory...

6. It's true that the wrong Republicans won that year. The Clinton
victory was fantastic but the venom spewed by the Republicans was really vile.
