Is McLame/Failin desperate for attendance?
McLame and Failin will unfortunately be here in NW Ohio so I'm going to have to hear their voices on my local station (along with all the national stations). Anyway, when I wake up this AM the first thing I hear on the news station is this:

#1: Tickets are STILL available for the Queen Witches rally today at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green Ohio. Hmmmmm - the tickets are free, yet the Queen Witches rally still has tickets. Guess people don't love her as much as the M$M likes to imply.

This though really shows desperation IMHO:

#2: McLame will be in Defiance, Ohio at some auditorium there. I didn't catch the name of the auditorium. But, here's the kicker (and I didn't catch the whole story), but apparently McLame's camp (or the school was responsible not sure which) sent letters home with students to parents that the students (must be high school students) will be attending the McLame rally. Get this, some parents complained, and the answer to the parents was that if they don't want their children to attend the rally, all they have to do is contact the (principle or superintendent??) of the school to let them know they don't want their child to attend.

Now, I REALLY think McLame must be desperate for attendees and he needs to make it look like he has allot of people at his rally, so what better way to make that happen? Have the school kids come to the rally!! And, sending letters home to parents letting them know their child will be attending a political rally - I somehow find that wrong. Doesn't that make it appear as if the school system is supporting one candidate over the other? Am I wrong? If I had a child at that school I would be very angry about public funds of a school system being used to support a presidential candidate.

By the way, I have no link. I just heard it on Toledo Ohio 13 News this AM.

What do you think?

1. I wouldn't let my child attend, only because
There was an incident where students who attended a rally somewhere else were hit with racial slurs as they were leaving.

3. I agree with you.
Another thing I think is that parents that don't want their child to attend have to contact the school and let the school know. I personally believe it should be the other way around. If you WANT your child to attend contact the school.

14. Normally I wouldn't care -- if it were a democratic debate
That would be educational. But this year, the haters are better viewed from afar.

12. I'm with you too.
I wouldn't want my kids around all that concentrated hate, stupidity, and ignorance.

7. I'm having high school flashbacks . . .
In junior poli sci, I was the only democrat in the 30 person class. I dealt with it because it was an elective. What really rubbed me the wrong way was my teachers calling me an idiot because I supported Gore, and encouraged other students to say the same to me. Then they gloated after Bush v. Gore. As someone who is acutely aware of political prejudice in high school, this really really disturbs me. I'd feel the same way if students were forced to attend an Obama rally.

8. I don't think they should hold political rallies at schools.
There are many other places to rally, why schools? It just leads to unnecessary controversies like this one.

9. When I was in high school,
President Kennedy came to town to give a speech. Even though he was the President, and not campaigning, my school wouldn't let us off to go see him (though some played hooky and did). My mom was a Republican and so of course I wasn't among those who attended. (She voted Obama this year, btw!) I can't imagine a school actually allowing something like this to happen.

estimated Mccain rally attendance at the Crown Colisium at between 7,000 and 8,200 people. Hank Williams was added to the venue several days after the campaign/RNC and its local version in NC advertised Mccain would be coming to Fayetteville.

McCain brings campaign to Fayetteville

A staff and wire report

Republican John McCain spoke before a cheering crowd of about 8,200 at the Crown Colliseum today, hammered his message in the final stretch of the campaign.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — When Republican presidential nominee John McCain asked veterans at a Fayetteville rally Tuesday to raise their hands, hundreds shot up.

"I've been fighting for this country since I was 17 years old," McCain told the crowd of more than 7,000 supporters at the Crown Coliseum, where Democratic rival Barack Obama appeared more than two weeks ago. "And I have the scars to prove it."

Obama's Sunday foray into eastern N.C. was his first
By Rob Christensen | Raleigh News & Observer

"My opponent has made his choice," Obama told an overflow crowd of more than 10,000 people at Crown Coliseum.

Btw, the overflow they are referring to was estimated at around 2,000 people.

Whoops - I think Mccain has REAL problem filling seats but I think Palin alone or Mccain/Palin would be a better bet for filling stands. Then again, who knows - this is coming from a campaign who handpicked attendees early on and there's a lot of bible thumping, nutjob fundies with a good mixture of racist buttmunchers drooling at a chance to display their ignorant, anti-American behavior in these venues. Sending flyers home w/kids wouldn't surprise me in the least.

11. Hi sickinohio, I live in Defiance and had not heard that. Although we were wondering
if it would happen considering the location.I had also heard they wanted to use the court house stairs, which we had hoped they would because our Obama headquarters is directly across the street. Any "crowd" photos would've seen BIG Obama signs.I am not the least bit surprised by this, as Defiance is a major repug town, but there are a lot more than usual dem yard signs up this year. I'm thinking they are running scared.I also heard Bill Clinton was going to be in NW Ohio on Thursday but haven't heard where. Any clue?

15. I think I heard that Bill is going to be in
Toledo, but not sure. If you find out more about this "rally" in Defiance, let me know. This makes me angry.

Also, hi neighbor :hi:

And I am so sick of Joe the Plumber, Sarah Failin & McLame invading our airwaves!! :puke:

18. Sick of all this crap--you and me both. What I know about the "rally" is they start "screening"
people at 7:00am, starts about 9:00 with other repug speakers, mclame around 10:00. The sight of the event is in downtown Defiance, the jr. high sits on the south end of town, but I think they said the rally will be held on the west side of the building. SO and I plan on being there with camera and Obama signs!

13. Keep in mind that Obama is
also appearing at public Universities, so you can't complain about McCain and Palin appearing at one without complaining about Obama's appearances at Universities.

And one reason schools are used is that they tend to have easily accessible venues that can hold decent numbers of people.

16. I'm not complaining about where they are
campaigning; I just think that it is wrong that the school or whatever sends a letter home to let the parents know that the students will be attending the McLame rally and the parents that DON'T want their child to attend have to call the school. It should be a letter stating that if you would like your child to attend then call the school. I actually don't think a letter should be sent at all, either way. Just IMHO

21. Wait! I thought this was at a college.
They're sending home letters to parents of college students? Are these college students at a public university being required to attend the rally? What if they have a class at that time? And how many of these letters will even make it to the parents in a timely manner?

17. Schools should NOT be promoting one party over another
Therefore they shouldn't be hosting rallies unless they do it for both parties!

McCain event in NM they were trying to drag people off the street into the event. It was only half full.
