The End of International Law? a chilling reminder that the Bush Doctrine is alive and well
The US incursion into Syrian territory over the weekend is a chilling reminder that the Bush Doctrine is alive and well and still operating. The US crossed into Syria, killed 9 civilians and made no apologies, only proclamations that the Empire is free to act where it wants, when it wants with complete disregard for borders.
Is Iran next?

A parallel new Bush doctrine is emerging, in the last days of the soon-to-be-ancien regime, and it needs to be strangled in its crib. Like the original Bush doctrine -- the one that Sarah Palin couldn't name, which called for preventive military action against emerging threats -- this one also casts international law aside by insisting that the United States has an inherent right to cross international borders in "hot pursuit" of anyone it doesn't like.

They're already applying it to Pakistan, and this week Syria was the target.
Is Iran next?

Let's take Pakistan first. Though a nominal ally, Pakistan has been the subject of at least nineteen aerial attacks by CIA-controlled drone aircraft, killing scores of Pakistanis and some Afghans in tribal areas controlled by pro-Taliban forces. The New York Times listed, and mapped, all nineteen such attacks in a recent piece describing Predator attacks across the Afghan border, all since August. The Times notes that inside the government, the U.S.Special Operations command and other advocates are pushing for a more aggressive use of such units, including efforts to kidnap and interrogate suspected Taliban and Al Qaeda leaders. Though President Bush signed an order in July allowing U.S. commando teams to move into Pakistan itself, with or without Islamabad's permission, such raids have occurred only once, on September 3.

The U.S. raid into Syria on October 26 similarly trampled on Syria's sovereignty without so much as a fare-thee-well. Though the Pentagon initially denied that the raid involved helicopters and on-the-ground commando presence, that's exactly what happened. The attack reportedly killed Badran Turki Hishan al-Mazidih, an Iraqi facilitator who smuggled foreign fighters into Iraq through Syria.
The Washington Post was ecstatic, writing in an editorial:

"If Sunday's raid, which targeted a senior al-Qaeda operative, serves only to put Mr. Assad on notice that the United States, too, is no longer prepared to respect the sovereignty of a criminal regime, it will have been worthwhile."

..more..

2. Smirko plans to leave a burning turd bigger'n Poppy's on the White House porch for the next CNC.
Thank for a most important post, G_j.

In 1992, Poppy got the USA bogged down in Somalia.

Little Boots is a fixing to mess things up, Big Time.

I can't wait for the next Attorney General to start investigating these traitors.

a huge deal is being made of Biden's remarks about an international crisis happening in the next president's term.

Well, yes, Hello! We have been creating an ongoing international crisis for a long time.

4. They must want Chimpageddon.
Even Joe the Plumber says that Obama would destroy Israel.
Going by the fact that the opposite of everything they say is true,
Israel will be a LOT safer with an Obama Administration.

McCain? He'll bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran.

He points out that pretty much every president during the whole of the twentieth century has had, on average, one or two international crises of one form or another per year. He also pointed out that those have skyrocketed since the end of the Cold War took the lid off a bunch of pressure cookers all over the place.

With that in mind, Obama running into one or two or five during his first year or two of office would utterly fail to surprise me. It's just par for the course in the world these days, annoying though that is, and most of them would have happened anyway. McCain would run into about as many, though he'd probably create one or two more on the side.

So yeah, my only real comment about an incoming president having an international crisis happen is "well, duh."

This madness will result in some country eventually firing back.

And they wouldn't be wrong to do so.

Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 11:48 PM by Triana
to clean up. And leaving the UNITED STATES vulnerable to attack by those the BFEE has pissed off with their idiocy for the past 8 years - with their rogue, imperialist policies.

GOD DAMN them.

The next president - no matter WHO (s)he is, will be tested. FACT. But the goddamned bu$h regime seems HELLBENT on seeing that they ARE by INSTIGATING it now. (and likely even hoping it happens before Nov 4th - I'm sure that would be fine with them!)

THIS is the epitome of EVIL. I hope they burn in Hell for it. :grr:

Video- Dennis Kucinich On US Attack In Syria.
Dennis Kucinich was on CNN recently to discuss the weekend attack by the US in Syria where 9 civilians were killed. Kucinich condemns the Bush regime's insane, violent tactics and questions the timing of the operation. Kucinich had to deal with a hostile, Cuban exile host.
