7. What's with the "no banjos" crack?

The banjo is actually an African-American instrument and is a hard instrument to play. I like banjo music but I don't like "white supremacists" like these two guys.
Incidentally, for some fine banjo music, you may want to pick up a cd entitled "Recapturing the Banjo" by Otis Taylor, who is an African American and proud of it. Please don't stereotype banjo music and those who play it as redneck music and rednecks.

10. Banjo is a modern culture joke that everyone understands

AS in "Keep paddling I hear banjo music" bumpersticker-which is funny

It was simply alluding to that joke.

I've always understood the banjo to be the only truly American musical invention- oddly coupled with Jazz as a uniquely American invention

Trust me I hear lots of banjo music most every morning (pre-6 AM) on the way back from the gym on the radio station I listen to
