‘Twas the eve of th’ election, and all through the House
And the Senate as well not a man nor a mouse
Could be heard through the panic and partisan chatter
To utter a word that could possibly matter.
The stock market hung on the words of Bernanke,
And he came across as uncertain and cranky.
Our banknotes were carefully hid in our bed
And fears of foreclosure redoubled our dread.
My wife’s indisposed and I’m out of work.
We won’t settle again for an ignorant jerk.
Then all of a sudden there arose such a wailin’
I knew we were in for a bout of Ms Palin.
Away to the TV I flew like a flash
To see how dismayingly brazen and brash
She could be in inciting her base mob to violence
While on topics of substance we’re blessed with her silence.
When what to my grateful surprise should appear
But the hope for a future of promise and cheer.

…And I heard him exclaim with his usual flair
One brisk winter day: “I solemnly swear…”
