Just in case you forgot...the George W. Bush Sewage Plant is ON THE BALLOT!

in San Francisco, that is. It's called Proposition R.

(kinda apropos--reminds me of "Plan R" in Dr. Strangelove. Satire, meet satire.)

Another reason to look forward to Nov 4!

:bounce:

http://www.newson6.com/global/story.asp?s=9237729

I looked at the SF voter guide online, and here's part of the text from the proponent:

Just as France presented the Statue of Liberty as its gift to the
nation, the citizens of San Francisco may now bestow their own
special gift to the country by renaming our award winning waste
water treatment plant in honor of outgoing President George W
Bush. We think this is a fitting memorial for a truly outstanding
Commander-in-Chief. On matters ranging from diplomacy to fiscal
and environmental stewardship, no other President has had
such a dramatic impact on the country and the Constitution in
such a short time. Most presidents wait years or decades to receive
their memorial airport or highway. We think President Bush
deserves immediate recognition for his eight years of public service.

<snip>

Fellow San Franciscans, we urge you to vote Oui! On November
4th.

Brian McConnell
Chairman, Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco

5. It's San Francisco, what's your guess?
;)

Also in the voter guide, the comptroller declared "minimal impact" on the budget. So yeah, it'll prolly pass.

Hell, it'll probably *make* money--think of the T-shirts! The "I saw the GWB Sewage Plant" bumper stickers!

Probably the first-ever sewage plant nationwide that will have a gift shop!

And the best part is that the *official* renaming (signage, stationery, everything) of the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant is (per the ballot) NOT the "GWB Water Pollution Control Plant", but....

The George W. Bush Sewage Plant.

:woohoo:

Just think, this all started with a buncha guys drinking beer in a bar. These guys are heroes!

13. Yes -- a gift shop is a MUST!
I'm in for t-shirts and coffee mugs.

I can also donate for a beautiful portrait of Dubya that should hang in a very prominent place. Really. My pleasure.

19. why is it a good tribute?
"Wastewater is treated at these plants to remove harmful pollutants, and the treated and cleaned wastewater is then transported through large pipes – or “outfalls” into the Bay or Ocean."

source: SF Public Utilities Commission.

and whom do you think such an enviromental innovation should be named in honor of?

28. This is perhaps the perfect argument against the proposed naming.
If you had a plant that dumped sewage into clean water, that'd be the ticket.

Sewage treatment is a vital and underappreciated service.

But, it annoys the conservatives, and I still hope it passes.

I guess I'm childish, but we have to have a laugh or 2 at his expense. They've been laughing at us, all the way to the bank, for 8 years.

10. This is great - although I had hoped they would just call it the "George Bush Processing Plant"
They need to emphasize that it is steaming globs of George Bush that they are processing in that facility.

Sewage plants actually perform valuable service to the community - something Dubya has NEVER done.

It is a very good sewage plant; nothing W has done could be considered as useful.

15. This won't pass
I don't think we should put things on the ballot to embarass or mock, it's just not the purpose. not only that, it sends a very unintended message regarding wastewater treatment.

SF voters won't pass this, although it might not lose by much, it will.

we are talking about having the city of SF rename its treatment plant as a big joke.

i expect idiocy from our board of supervisors, not our voters.

27. That's what makes it appropriate, in this case.
It's the only revenge we're allowed to have against *, too. And ridicule, which dismantles his pretense to being a big shot, is what really burns him. It would be a joke that pisses him off for years and years to come.

But it'll be up to San Franciscans, and not to me.

29. i thought we don't want the government to taking formal action to "mock" and "ridicule" anybody
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 06:40 PM by CreekDog
this is a clever idea for a Daily Show segment, but to say we should take official action to rename a PUBLIC FACILITY, paid for by taxpayer and ratepayer dollars, in order to mock and ridicule someone --that's just ridiculous.

30. Well, if it passes...
...it will be a majority of voters using a little tiny piece of the government--costing approximately nothing--to mock and ridicule the Worst President Ever, as a lesson to their kids about how not to rule.

The Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant in San Francisco, California.

A group called the http://presidentialmemorial.wordpress.com/">Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco collected 12,000 signatures with San Francisco election officials, hoping to place on the ballot an initiative that would rechristen the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant as the George W. Bush Sewage Plant in recognition of the political and environmental "mess" they say will be his legacy.
