Assuming McCain loses, and Ted Stevens wins, and Palin is perhaps being impeached...

How do you think the Senate would proceed to remove Stevens?

If they hold off on kicking him out until AFTER Alaskans have had a chance to impeach Sarah Palin (if that's in the works), perhaps they would have a better Governor in place to replace Stevens then if and when he gets removed. Just wondering if the Dem's might try to have the timing of this to allow for another Governor to appoint his replacement. That's probably why the McCain campaign is asking Stevens to step down soon, so that she gets to replace him instead of someone else later.

3. Ah, so that decouples those two events... Still would be made easier if Stevens loses...

I also think that though some feel the Dems could get political mileage out of having a trial in the Senate to remove Stevens, I think many Americans are tired of the Congress playing political games back and forth, and the Dems would be better off not having to deal with this and moving on more directly towards enacting legislation to correct the destructive policies the last 8 years have dealt to us ASAP.

2.  Won't have to.....
Stevens can step down and Palin can hurry and appoint herself Senator before she gets impeached.

4. He probably isn't going to be reelected
And if he were, I'm not sure that the Senate would vote to expel him, if they voters of his state chose to reelect him AFTER he was convicted.

But I believe that this is a moot point, as he will likely lose next week.

5. Well Palin won't be Impeached, Alaska is Republican dominated
Stevens if he indeed wins which is highly unlikely also will not be Impeached and removed from the Senate. It just doesn't happen. Best to think positive and hope Alaska has a Democratic Representative replacing Don Young and a Democrat replacing Ted Stevens. Palin is a one termer I would suspect and I doubt if she ever reaches the Big Stage again in her career..
