In These Last, Desperate Hours

Please allow me to quote former Chapelle Show visitor Wayne Brady: "Brace yoself fool!"

With a week to go until election day the McCain campaign has given up all vestiges of running a "respectful" campaign on gone into full attack mode. Not that they ever had any real focus on the issues, but at least there was some lip service given to actually taking a position by McCain. Now there's nothign but attacks, and it's going to get worse over this last week. In the next week, the right wing talking heads will use the words "Marxist, socialist, muslim, and terrorist" more times than in the rest of the year combined.

It goes to show that the McCain campaign KNOWS it can't win on issues, so instead it's going to try and scare you into voting for him. The same Rovian tactics used by Bush in 2004. The attacks are going to ratchet up to an unheard of level. Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Malkin, every single person on Fox News, and a veritable host of people with titles like "campaign advisor" and "Republican strategist" will be trumpeting the fact that Obama is a Marxist who hangs out 24-7 with terrorists who hate America. It's almost funny, this morning I was flipping through the news channels while eating my Cap'n Crunch and saw Barbara West (you will remember her as the Florida Fox affiliate that Biden made a fool of a few days ago) defending her line of questions on Fox News. Of course, the Fox News morning crew were telling her how great she was for asking "biting" questions. Of course! Because it's totally sensible to ask the guy who wants to give 95% of Americans a tax cut if he's a Marxist! Stuff like this would be hilarious if the stakes weren't so high.

So to all the Democrats, Progressives, Liberals...whatever...brace yoself, and know this: They're scared.

The GOP is scared of us. They know we're going to win...deep down in those places they don't talk about at country clubs, they're scared. That's what it means to be conservative. They want no change. They'd rather take a step back into comfortable territory than take a step forward to a better future. We know what scared people do. Just like a cornered animal, they're going to attack, attack, attack...because it's all they have left.

So, fellow Democrats, take a deep breath. The next week is going to be ugly and rough. They're going to throw every bomb they have. Don't let it ruin your day. Don't let it sink your spirits. Don't let them drag you down to their level. Stay strong, let the hate from the right wash over you. In seven days, we WILL have President elect Obama.

They're terrified. We're going to win. Believe dat!

the next two weeks we will enter into the bizarro land of politics.

the desperate will attack desperately and the smart will counter easily.

but the last week will be out right crazy.
