GOP fundraiser in NH let people shoot machine guns

HOLDERNESS, N.H. - Some people wondering what it would be like to shoot a machine gun found out during the weekend at a Republican fundraising event in Holderness, N.H.

Jeremy Elliott of Derry said firing 30 rounds from a 9-millimeter Uzi was "a hoot." He was pleased that he managed to stay on target when he let it rip at the end.

Elliott is a hunter and target shooter, but said he had never fired a machine gun before.

That also was true for Sherry Lee Duffy, a police officer in Millis, Mass. She said firing the Uzi was "electrifying."

The fundraiser for the Pemi-Baker Valley Republican Committee took place Sunday at a local gun club.

Note - this is not the shoot where the 8 year old accidentally fatally shot himself with an Uzi. I just found it ironic this was held the same weekend as this unfortunate accident and was a GOP fundraiser.

2. wow. These people are just amazing.

I've never fired a machine gun. I wouldn't mind doing so. I haven't fired any kind of gun in over a decade. But who ties that kind of activity with a political fundraiser?

4. Yeah, that's what is disturbing to me.

It's a political rally. Don't we sort of, at the base of it, have politics so that we can keep the shooting to a minimum, in general? It just is an icky idea and extremely unfortunate considering two of the news stories breaking today.

I hope the Dem congress gives the Secret Service all the funds they request for agents and training to protect President Obama.

These freaks are scaring me and you know they won't let up after the election!

I think we all have a job after the election to at least go after the hatemongers in the media.

6. 30 rounds ~= 3 seconds of fire, but...

the magazines don't come in 30 round versions. The closest for 9x19mm is 25- and 32- round. Maybe it was three, 10-round magazines of .22LR at 1 second each. Either way: yawn. 50mm is a lot more fun.
