I was visiting family over the weekend, in Tennessee. Low key affair. Quality time with grandparents for my daughters...
My brother finally made it over a short time before we had to leave on Sunday and for god knows what reason, he decided to bring up politics. Now I've been quietly and gently prodding my parents on the Presidential election, I'll admit that, but he was jumping in full force with McCain. So, I asked him why...
His best reason for voting for McCain? Obama is Muslim.
Um, ok
So, I told him, ya know, that's been disproved several times over and simply isn't true. And, on the other hand, what difference would it make?
His response?
I've read Revelations.
...
I was floored. After calling him a bigot and biting off anything else that jumped into my mind, I had to leave the room.
I can't believe some of these ultra-fundie people. Yarg!
I think I may still have hope with my parents. Their preacher, ultra-fundamental, Christian, Church of Christ, no musical instruments in the church, for those that are familiar... He's supporting Obama. Made them stop and think, at least.
Sigh.
Luckily he's not part of the Bradley effect. He would never say he was supporting Obama. But I do wonder about what impact he may have on those around him.
