6. A few of us actually entertain the notion that Arizona could turn blue.
The demographics in Arizona have been moving hugely in Obama's direction. Young, college-educated folks have been moving to the sunbelt and valley of the sun in droves. Largely without landlines, they'd be very difficult to poll. There's no question that the core reich-wing idiocracy remains entrenched there, but it's been one of the fastest growing states for years.

Remember ... J. D. Hayworth was finally thrown out on his ass in 2006. Governor Janet Napolitano is a Democrat.

It's NOT impossible.

10. Goldwater detested the Bush brand of Republicanism.
Goldwater was far more rational than the average GOPher in today's Senate and House. I didn't vote for him, but it wasn't that unreasonable a choice, imho. He was part of the GOP BEFORE Nixon 'collected' the bigots and racists with his "Southern Strategy." Goldwater was opposed to the religious fundamentalism ... a 'movement' largely built on the basis of segregation and anti-integration. My biggest problem with Goldwater was his animosity towards labor unions ... supposedly based on the kinds of corruption symbolized by Jimmy Hoffa. Baby and bathwater, imho.
