Stevens Jury Has To Start Over Again...
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5je6Pw1sViz24JRo9F0PNhoqMtzTwD942S5LG0

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new juror has been added to the panel deciding whether Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens broke the law by accepting gifts from friends.

U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan had dismissed a juror who flew to California because of her father's death. The judge on Monday added a new female juror to replace the woman he dismissed.

Because of the switch, the jury must start its deliberations over from the beginning. Jurors had been considering the case since Wednesday. The restart is a blow to Stevens, who had hoped to get a verdict before Election Day. He is locked in a tough Senate race against Democrat Mark Begich.

Not good news for Senator Tubes...in fact, this could be the start of what could be a very bad 8 days for the Senator From Nowhere.

8. I don't.
I'm not sure whether a conviction was going to be forthcoming before the election, but I don't like this delay.

It was probably unavoidable, though.

3. At Least One Alternate Was Added
I'm not sure if it's for the juror whose father suddenly died or the one who was disruptive last week...but this trial has been a mess from the outset...it was rushed and sloppy. I wouldn't be surprised if we get either a hung jury or mistrial out of this...and, no question, if convicted, Stevens has very solid grounds for an appeal. Yep, this could go on.

I think it'd be fun for a verdict to come down on Thursday night or Friday and then watch him scramble.

Cheers...

7. The guilty verdict will be appealed before the election
and all negatives that can be thrown at the process will be used to distract from the blatant crimes and unequivocal evidence indicting one of the most powerful Republicans in history.

Little mentioned is the charges and consequences. The perjurious acts carry mandatory federal time.

And undisputed godfather of the Corrupt Bastards Club, Alaska chapter

Just mention that you are pals with Sarah Palin there Teddie, should get you some brownie points, or not.

6. Don Young Is Next...
He's sleazier than Stevens and hopefully will be both out of a job next week and indicted shorty thereafter.

No doubt, Palin's got a lot of messes waiting her back in Northern Exposureland...but Stevens losing would be a real blow to her. Methinks she'd write her name on the ticket if Stevens were to win and then resign...or win and then be convicted. It's gonna be hard for her to go back to eating Mooseburgers.

Cheers...

11. "Caribou Barbie" is creative, "MILFy McMooseBurger" goes that extra step.
You know a "burger" is another name for a "mayor".

10. He Delivered The Pork...
It's the power of incumbency...always a tough job to knock one off cause they can deliver so many things to so many people. In a small state like Alaska, many have benefitted from one Uncle Ted earmark or another...lots of favors given over a long, long career.

I worked on a campaign that tried and then eventually ousted a 20-plus year incumbent...it wasn't easy, so many were "comfortable" with the moron...even though he was both ineffective and corrupt. It wasn't until his drinking became an issue that we finally got rid of him, but even then, many were resistant to change.

Here's hoping the fine folks in Alaska do the right thing and elect Mark Begich and Ethan Berkowitz next week and spare themselves and the rest of us of these criminals.

Cheers...

12. Stevens and his office has a reputation not only for the pork
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 11:12 AM by Blue_In_AK
but for being responsive to the needs of individual ordinary constituents. I myself called on Senator Stevens back in the early '90s. I had bought a foreclosed duplex, a HUD house, which turned out to have a bad roof that HUD had concealed evidence of. I was making little headway with our local HUD office in remedying the situation so contacted Sen. Stevens to see if he could help me out. He tried working with our local office, and when that didn't work, he applied pressure in DC. In the end, he didn't make any headway either and I had to go through a lengthy legal battle (long story), but I was impressed by the efforts that he and his office made on my behalf.

It's little things like that that have endeared Ted to Alaskans for all these years. He came to national power when the state was only nine years old so he has touched many lives. The pity is that while helping us, he helped himself and his cronies, as well. Had he dropped out a few years ago before the downfall of Bill Allen and VECO, he would have continued to be revered as a senior statesman and wouldn't have found himself in the mess he's in now. It's too bad he didn't know when to quit to save his legacy.

Even with this trial going on, it's going to be tough for Begich to beat him.

13. I wonder if he's got that
"Incredible Hulk" tie on? Or maybe one of someone pleading for his life? I hope they get you Stevens, and lock you up and throw away the key.
