I dont get it. Why do they steal them? Doesnt that just mean the person has to spend more money to buy another sign which makes Barack more cash?

Territoriality. They feel threatened by us so if they can encroach on our territory, they feel empowered. It's one of the contributing factors to all assaults, rapes, etc. (and really, essentially, all human interaction). Anyone who would deface and destroy a sign would be someone I would stay away from. There are probably more than a few sign thieves who just got drunk and did something stupid -- not that that exonerates them but I think it keeps them out of the more extreme category.
