Waxman Hearing Revelation: GOP Senators ignored CIA memo which disputed claim Wilson sent by wife

Plame's Input Is Cited on Niger Mission
Report Disputes Wilson's Claims on Trip, Wife's Role

By Susan Schmidt
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, July 10, 2004; Page A09

<snip>

The report turns a harsh spotlight on what Wilson has said about his role in gathering prewar intelligence, most pointedly by asserting that his wife, CIA employee Valerie Plame, recommended him.

...

The report may bolster the rationale that administration officials provided the information not to intentionally expose an undercover CIA employee, but to call into question Wilson's bona fides as an investigator into trafficking of weapons of mass destruction. To charge anyone with a crime, prosecutors need evidence that exposure of a covert officer was intentional.

The report states that a CIA official told the Senate committee that Plame "offered up" Wilson's name for the Niger trip, then on Feb. 12, 2002, sent a memo to a deputy chief in the CIA's Directorate of Operations saying her husband "has good relations with both the PM and the former Minister of Mines (not to mention lots of French contacts), both of whom could possibly shed light on this sort of activity." The next day, the operations official cabled an overseas officer seeking concurrence with the idea of sending Wilson, the report said.

Wilson has asserted that his wife was not involved in the decision to send him to Niger.

"Valerie had nothing to do with the matter," Wilson wrote in a memoir published this year. "She definitely had not proposed that I make the trip."

Revelation from today:

<snip>

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) also requested an internal CIA memo that disputed the Senate Intelligence Committee’s finding that Plame sent her husband, former ambassador Joe Wilson, on his infamous trip to Niger. Waxman agreed to both requests.

Plame said the CIA official who wrote the memo came to her with “tears in his eyes,” saying the Senate committee report was wrong and mischaracterized his memo.

to understanding how the republican senate ignored its obligation to this country.

9. You bet they did.
They must be held accountable. It's the only way we stand a chance of stopping this madness.

ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

6. and AP through Yahoo misrepresents the whole affair
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070316/ap_on_go_co/cia_leak_congress

The pukes have their machinery out it full force to contradict everything

What they are doing is justifying the outing, and I doubt anyone cares

I say those who are in Iraq now, enjoy your stay, your nation could care less. We went to war with a country based on a lie, and if you believe the B.S. about "freedom" for Iraq, then in the course of time you will see so enough what reality really is...

She revealed little new information about the case, which sparked a federal investigation and brought perjury and obstruction of justice convictions of Vice President
Dick Cheney's former top aide, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby. No one has been charged with leaking her identity.

13. She testified that she had been overseas, in a covert
operation in the last 5 years from today! That's within a year of Treason-Bob's revelation! Why the fuck isn't this being shouted from the rooftops? Why is Treason-Bob still allowed to take a breath? Or anyone in this fucking cabal.

Sorry, I'm incensed.

14. AP article also omits the revelation
that there is an affirmative obligation under the law for an internal investigation. The article only says that there wasn't one.

16. Oh my, "an affirmative obligation under the law" sounds very
official and binding IMHO. Seems like it wouldn't be smart to completely ignore such an obligation.
