Help me FDISK/FORMAT this NTFS drive before I shoot it !!! ~~Please?!

;)

I swear, I'm looking for a weapon!!!

It's the most stubborn OS I've ever run into in my few (many) years dealing with 'Pukers!

I can't rename the drive, I can't 'UNmount' it, I can't reinstall the OS (corrupt), I can't rename it, as all the language is corrupt except the headers.... :argh:

Any Einstein's out there have a solution, short of an M30 July 4th explosion?! :P

:argh:

I have Win ME full install CD.... I have Win XP E-Machine Recover CD's but they are for my dead CPU E-Machine and do not seem to help at all. I am trying to FDISK/FORMAT the HD and install Win ME clean.... but due to a 'mounted HD' using NTFS, I am unable to mount or dismount the HD and just install ME. All the language in the XP is corrupt and looks like ASCHI II language. If I rename Windows in Explorer, wouldn't that allow me to bypass the BS and just install ME?

7. so you need to go back to a FAT32 format...?
FDISK should do that-- I googled and got lots of instructions. You might also look into Partition Magic.

2. Got a Similar Problem
I formatted the drive, with the intention of doing a fresh install of Windows 2000 Pro (yes, I know I'm behind the times). Specified NTFS. Every time it boots (to the CD ROM original Windows disk), it goes through the formatting thing again. Can't get it to install. Can't get it to do anything.

I figure I'm going to buy a new HDD. Hope you have more luck.

3. If you are serious about fdisking it
Boot your computer off the windows CD and begin an installation. Early in the process you should get a chance to select the partition to install to, and at that point you can delete an existing partition, recreate it, and format it. Of course you will lose all your data files and installed programs, e-mail, etc etc etc.

9. Thanks mike_c... been trying that myself... but I keep hitting Linux, Fedora,
Example:

Unmount the Windows Partition on boot?

http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=64235

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks in advance for any ideas on how to do this!

For security reasons, I'd like for the bootcamp created NTFS Windows partition to unmount automatically for any user so the partition cannot be seen from OS X at all.

I have searched and seen several scripts for partition "nomount", but they all depend on the partition UUID number. But from what I can tell, there is no such ID created for this partition.

The only partition identifiers I can find are disk0s3 and the /volumes/untitled.

Some simple text string startup file that loads on boot would be the ideal.

Regards, Gary

Library closing now.... I'll look for suggestions and wisdom in the 'morrow.

Thanks! :hi:

8. May I suggest?

Pull out your HD. Get (or borrow) another HD. Install your OS on it. Then hook up the previous drive as a slave and try and pick up your documents and email from it.

Then try and renovate the original drive if possible.

On Edit: Ah OK, saw your post about Win ME... Maybe hook up the iffy drive in another machine and recover documents.
