Bracing for impact...
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 04:16 PM by Javaman
or never under estimate the american voter to vote against their own best interests.

There as been a lot of wishful thinking here on DU.

Obama has got it in the bag. how are you going to celebrate on nov 5th? landslide. etc, etc, etc.

we have been burned twice. I fully expect to be burned yet again.

there is nothing more dangerous than a cornered animal. what we are now witness to with mcinsane and failin is just that. They are trying everything and anything to put out all sorts of bizarro concepts, ideas and panicked messaged all under a massive coating of lies.

they are cornered. they are freaking out. they are now moving from the bottom of the slime pit to a whole new area that actually manufactures the slime. you really don't want to know how that is done.

and make no mistake, there are whole sections of this nation that live and breath this stuff like it's a life giving force.

Never under estimate the power of stupidity on the least informed.

we thought we saw ugly? we thought the repukes had hit bottom with their attacks?

nope and nope.

we now, these last two weeks, will be treated to such a major lowing of the bar, that one will have to jump down to get over it.

Until Obama actually wins, I count no chickens before they are hatched.

In two short weeks, the power of negative propaganda can be devastating.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "fight them in the office, fight them on the street, fight them at the supermarket, give no ground. The battle is for minds, for rationality, for hope for a better future, to learn from the failures of the past and use the tool of facts and information to defeat the nay sayers, the liars and the willfully uninformed, this will be our finest hour".

May the imaginary pilot in the sky have mercy on our retched souls shall we fail in this noble endeavor.

Will it be close enough to steal? :yoiks:

18. I agree they will try. But the margins will be too wide, just like
in the 2006 races.

4. you need to take into account those of us who are just as desperate to win
. . .maybe even more so than those who are just flexing the fascist muscles they've built up over the last few years.

Look at 2004. It was a revolution at the polls. I expect the same this time around. If it's not, I'll strongly suspect we've been robbed. But, that's no excuse for cynicism. Get to work.

5. Not to mention it seriously concerns me
that we have deployed a military combat unit on American soil and now the many police departments, which these days are mini combat units, around the country have been advised to be on heightened alert for election day.

8. "Never under estimate the power of stupidity on the least informed. "
There are now about 2 generations of people born and raised on hate radio & Fox "news," in a climate of dishonesty, lack of accountability and fervent nationalism.

Very little surprises me anymore in America, so until November 5th, no one should take anything for granted.

10. It's Ok To Be Excited With The Numbers. They've Already Thrown EVERYTHING They Can At Us, And Our
lead has only grown. They've got nothing left. Barring some unforeseen terrorist attack or other HUGE nationwide event, Obama will win this cleanly. That's just common sense at this point.

But I agree that nobody should let their guard down, and that everything so far, straight up to election day, is just pregame. We need to all rush out to the polls in record numbers to make this all real. But I have no doubt we will, and have no doubt we will win. It will be the best political day of my life.

11. Too much momentum to be stopped by stupidity
I do agree, that the bar will go low --- lower than a snakes belly before the fat lady sings just about when the polls close on the west coast 11/4, but the Obama train has so much MO, that nothing the pukes through at it will stick enough to slow it down.

We will win, and I fear not one loyal Dem will refuse to vote out of a sense of complacency. We desperately do not want to ever see the likes of the last admin in power again.

in far greater numbers than the Repub counterparts. I still think it's in the bag. We'll see, obviously.

14. I agree Javaman
I have sat through two miserable selections thinking everything was cool at some point of the evening and then it all went to hell...

For God's sakes people don't spread this landslide stuff (it would be lovely if it happened) but you don't want anyone you speak to in daily life to get the idea that they don't need to go and vote because it's already in the bag--not everyone is as diligent as the people who are addicted to politics and we're going to need every damned vote we can get!

I hope that these leads continue but it's not time to celebrate yet!

17. I will NEVER be complacent again...not ever
Not even after this election, or the next.

After 2 Clinton terms -- with 8 years of peace and prosperity, I was complacent. I expected it to continue. Any rational person would want it to continue, so would vote for it to continue.

I will NEVER be complacent again. NOT EVER.

20. How I am spending Election Night...
Three of my gal-pals are working at the polls all day and won't be done until about 9:30 at night, California time. They are coming to my house afterward, plus a neighbor whose hubby is a hard-right Repub, and another who is elderly and lives alone.

Mr. H should be home from teaching about the time we all assemble. I'll have a few snacks, some juice for those who don't imbibe and wine for those who do, a bottle of Martinelli's fizzy apple cider and a bottle of cheap champagne.

I think none of us really wants to be alone that night. Whatever happens we will be together.

Gods willing, the champagne will be opened.

If not  and :grouphug:

Gods willing, the champagne.

Hekate

26. what worries me most is "THEY count the votes!" . . .
"It's not who votes that counts; it's who counts the votes." . . .

can't be said often enough or loudly enough from now until Election Day . . . I'm as worried as you are, hoping for the best but expecting the worst . . .

the only thing that may save us is an overwhelming turnout and margin -- which is not at all impossible, imo . . . but I ain't countin' no chickens . . .
