Politicians from both parties use the tax code to help achieve policy objectives
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 11:22 PM by Tony_FLADEM
For example, People who buy Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) can use the Tax Code, to save money. One could argue this is a distribution of wealth from Non-Suv owners to those who own Suvs. The Bush Administration put this in the Tax Code. Is George W. Bush a Socialist?

I guess when Republicans use the Tax Code to achieve policy objectives, it's Okay. When Democrats do the same thing they are Socialists. :sarcasm:

1. I love when college Republicans ( at public schools) try pull the Socialism card
The look on their face when you bring up how you are subsidising their education with your tax dollars (socialism?) is the best.

2. My favorite was a friend of my brothers
who went to the Naval Academy on a ROTC scholarship (couldn't have gone to a cheaper school - no, he wanted the feds to pay for a better education), did his bare minimum in the Navy, got out and went to grad school supported by a federal grant and complained about people being "on the public dole" - I pointed out that he was on the public dole and he responded, yes, and he couldn't wait to get off. This was the same night he denied that there was a marriage penalty in the tax code because he and his wife (who was in medical school at the time, I'm sure at a public university) saved money on their taxes compared to if they had filed separately (if it didn't happen to him it didn't exist, disregarding the fact that he calculated the comparison wrong - married but filing singly is usually more expensive). I haven't seen him since but if I do and he ever brings up politics to my I'm just going to say he's a hypocrite and I'm not willing to discuss it with him.

This was 2 or 3 years before GWB - I wonder what he's thinking now. I'm SURE he voted for him. Does he ever get nervous that officers serve "at the pleasure of the President" and he could be called up again at any time?

3. Oh, but they're different than
welfare queens - they are productive members of society (or they will be). :sarcasm:

I'm with you - any college Republicans at public schools are getting a good start on their gross and deep-seated hypocrisy.
