who went to the Naval Academy on a ROTC scholarship (couldn't have gone to a cheaper school - no, he wanted the feds to pay for a better education), did his bare minimum in the Navy, got out and went to grad school supported by a federal grant and complained about people being "on the public dole" - I pointed out that he was on the public dole and he responded, yes, and he couldn't wait to get off. This was the same night he denied that there was a marriage penalty in the tax code because he and his wife (who was in medical school at the time, I'm sure at a public university) saved money on their taxes compared to if they had filed separately (if it didn't happen to him it didn't exist, disregarding the fact that he calculated the comparison wrong - married but filing singly is usually more expensive). I haven't seen him since but if I do and he ever brings up politics to my I'm just going to say he's a hypocrite and I'm not willing to discuss it with him.
This was 2 or 3 years before GWB - I wonder what he's thinking now. I'm SURE he voted for him. Does he ever get nervous that officers serve "at the pleasure of the President" and he could be called up again at any time?
