Interesting statement on "Road to the White House" on MSNBC just now.
I can't remember the guy's name, but he's one of the more rational reporters said "I'm not sure it's LEGAL for a campaign to spend PUBLICLY FUNNDED money on clothes." They were talking about the campaign buying Sarah $150,000 in clothes.

I forgot! This may be different if McNuts was just spending campaign donor $$, but he's NOT! He's spending the Federal Funds he accepted.

Buchanan came back and argued that there's a history of candidates spending campaign funds on lots of silly things, and that same reporter said "Yes, but one of the things you never see is CLOTHING listed on FEC reports!

10. chris matthews called her eliza doolittle
and that makes sense. if you think of the movie my fair lady, what henry higgins did was take a commoner and polished her up to make her pass for one of the wealthy folks. he had her talking like high society and walking like high society. pass her off as one of the aristocratic sort. too bad they didn't bother to give her basic knowledge info. after the first or second time she gave the wrong answer on the vp job.

2. There is also the question (althought no longer relevant) that
legally she is not qualified. That was a John Dean statement some weeks back. Education background I think plus her membership in AIP....

3. That was Lawrence O'Donnell, And yes, it was interesting that
there may be legal implications of buying clothes with campaign funds.

5. Really. After all the laws these thugs have broken, I'm sure
clothing is the least of their concerns.

6. Hey, Buchanan -- how many times have you seen children's clothing listed?
I think that is pushing the envelope.

7. Not a reporter.
It was Lawrence O'Donnell. I don't know if its legal or not either but I know the FEC isn't going to do anything about it so it doesn't matter. Also, I think the FEC money goes to the McCain campaign while the clothes were purchased with RNC funds.

12. I thought it was RNC $$ too, but the way they were talking on that
show, it appeared on the McNuts campaign FEC REPORT. I honestly don't know how it works with what the RNC does v/s what the campaign must report. The way I viewed it is that the campaign must report all receipts & all expenditures each month. The RNC gives them $XX they must report it on the "receipt lines" and the expenses must be reported on the "expense line". I don't know what the rules are for "The Party" giving $$ to a campaign. It looks like there are no limitations. But if the clothing expense appeared on the FEC Report, there's NO WAY for the campaign to be able to prove a separation of funds "Fed. Matching Funds v/s RNC Funds".
