Two flippable Illinois congressional districts need your help!
x-posted from the Illinois forum:

Both of these seats are very, very, very winnable:

IL-11th district: Debbie Halvorson
http://www.debbiehalvorson.com
(Joliet, Kankakee, Ottawa, Bloomington-Normal)

IL-18th district: Colleen Callahan
http://www.colleencallahanforcongress.com
(Peoria, Jacksonville)

They both need our help now to put them over the top. Please check out their web sites and donate to their campaigns asap...

4. I've both donated and done calling for Debbie.
She's been getting great help from the DCCC. Bruce Braley was here for a rally for her last week. But it's a pretty red area. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Kev!

7. Hey kiddo!
How've ya been?

Debbie is absolutely one amazing lady; I've been impressed with her for a long time. Glad to hear you've been able to help. If you talk to Justin, tell him I said hi...

14. I've been doing calling from our local party office. Met Debbie at a fundraiser
but that's all. That, and going to hear Bruce Braley speak at a rally for her. His brother and I were in a continuing ed program together in Iowa, so I had to go hear him.

I've been good! How's everything in Suite 208? Give everyone my best! :hi:

8. Dick Cheney did some stealth fund-raising for Debbie's GOP opponent., Ozinga!
From Debbie's website:

Dick Cheney is coming here to raise thousands for Marty Ozinga behind closed doors at Marty's own home. Cheney wants to preserve his legacy by helping to elect people like Marty Ozinga.

It's a legacy of destruction at home and abroad. It's a legacy that puts corporate CEO millionaires first, and the middle-class last. It's a legacy that was wrong on Iraq, wrong on the economy, and wrong on health care.

It's time to stand up and say "no" to Cheney's influence. Cheney doesn't represent our values, and Marty Ozinga won't either.

Make yourself heard! Please help us raise $10,000 online.

15. Dick never made it here. That was the day he had trouble with
whatever it is that takes up the space where his heart should be.

10. Cool.
I'd been meaning to post about these two districts for awhile, but it was actually the Durbin email about the Callahan race that reminded me today. Here it is for those who haven't seen it yet:

Subject: Backdate-gate

to Colleen Callahan today, and help expose "Backdate-gate!" I am writing you this urgent appeal because I have nowhere else to turn.

There has been a game-changing development in an important Congressional race in downstate Illinois.

It's an open seat in Peoria, which is traditionally Republican.

The GOP nominee is a 27-year-old named Aaron Schock who has all the money he can spend. He shoots from the hip about sending nuclear weapons to Taiwan and his undying loyalty to George Bush's failed agenda.

Our Democratic nominee, Colleen Callahan, is a bright, engaging community leader who has spent 30 years in broadcast journalism covering a variety of issues and specializing in agriculture policy.

As a newcomer she has raised over $450,000, but Schock has swamped her with the help of national Republican sources.

to Colleen Callahan's campaign today, and help her compete against her well-financed Republican opponent!

Last week there was a blockbuster story across Illinois that Schock had notarized fraudulent documents with false dates so that his father could be eligible for offshore tax shelters. The source of the story was Schock's own father in sworn testimony before a federal court. The damning testimony was buried in a court transcript but an Associated Press reporter dug it out, making statewide news.

Schock denied wrongdoing and said he saw nothing wrong with notarizing documents he knew were clearly fraudulent. A national notary expert quoted in the story said Schock clearly broke the law because "to backdate a document ... is illegal. You have to notarize for the current date."

Colleen Callahan's campaign has just produced a powerful new television ad to expose "Backdate-gate." But right now, Colleen has enough money to run this ad for only four days. She needs at least $10,000 from our community to deliver this important message to the voters through Election Day.

Please to watch Colleen Callahan's new ad, and make a contribution so she can keep it on the air through Election Day!

Schock's clear misconduct raises serious questions about his judgment. When the voters know the facts, Colleen Callahan can win.

Colleen is not only a good person, she brings the kind of mature judgment to this race that we need in Congress.

We need your help today.

If you can Colleen's campaign $10, $100, or whatever you can afford, it can make the difference.

The election is only a few days away and your help can decide this critical contest.

Sincerely,

Dick Durbin
U.S. Senator

P.S. After you to Colleen Callahan's campaign, please visit IllinoisVictory2008.com and to volunteer with the coordinated effort to elect Democrats across Illinois!

6. May I add one more? Il-09th. This is winnable, also.
I've seen quite a few good ads against Mark Kirk, the current Representative. Tying Kirk with Bush. :-)

12. Agreed.
There was a SurveyUSA poll a few weeks back that showed Seals with a lead for the first time, so there's every reason to believe he could take it with enough support here at the end.

Both he and Halvorson have been getting help from DCCC, but Callahan has been pretty much out there on her own. That's why I'm so happy to see the email from Durbin I posted above.

Here's hoping the net-roots can help to pick up the slack for Callahan and the others, and maybe, just maybe, we can score the hat trick and carry all three races. Wouldn't that be something!

We can't afford to lose sight of the fact that President Obama will need help to fix the mess the current regime is leaving behind. Illinois might be viewed as a "safe" state for Obama, but we need to pick up Congressional seats if we want TRUE change.

13. Greetings...And Thanks For The Post!
One more imporant Congressional race in Illinois that can still use some attention and love: Dan Seals:

http://www.dansealsforcongress.com/

He's in a dog fight with "so-called" moderate Mark Kirk.

I just got an email from Senator Durbin and donated to Colleen and have anted up for Debbie several times. C-SPAN just talked about the 11th...Debbie's polling very well there...quite a feat in a district that has been red for as long as I can recall. What a contrast it will be with her vs. Senor Weller....whose probably living in Guatamala by now.
