Elderly gay couple murdered in home
http://www.365gay.com/news/elderly-couple-murdered-in-home/

(Indianapolis, Indiana) Indianapolis police say they have few clues in the slayings of an elderly gay couple found in their home earlier this week.

Police have not divulged how Milton Lindgren, 70, and Eric Hendricks, 73, were murdered, or how long their bodies had been inside the house. A police spokesperson would say only that the men died by “violent means.”

Officers were sent to the home after friends notified police that the men had not been seen for some time.

Investigators say they have not determined a motive for the slayings, but friends say they believe the men were killed because they were gay.

One friend, Patrick Beard, told WRTV that the men had been targeted by vandals, with their phone and cable lines cut twice in the past few months, and that homophobic graffiti was found on their front door.

“I firmly believe it was definitely a hate crime. Milt was 70 and his partner was 73 and to go into someone’s home and do something like that, it’s just too coincidental,” Beard told WRTV.

46. I can't even FIND a no on 8 sticker
I want one for my car but the only way I found one was on ebay. The Democratic Headquarters didn't have any!...and I have not seen one house with a no on 8 sign. I have only seen a car with large paper taped to the side of it saying, "Don't Hate. No on 8."
Other than that, a bunch of idiots with yes on 8 stickers and signs.

48. I hear you, Mollis!

I got mine at the Democratic Club in Laguna Beach.

That is the only place I've been able to find them.

I made a homemade sign for the other side of my car
that was similar to the one you saw.

No on 8 ( BIG circle with 8 and a slash through it)
Stop the Hate!

I'm glad you found one.

5. That's my nightmare come true
We're a quiet couple of 23 years, a bit reclusive, getting on in years. Never had a problem in this small town but sometimes I wonder if some nut isn't going to someday see our obvious couple-hood (interracial at that) and decide to end it for us.

These poor men, how horrible.

15. Similar here...we're together since 1981 and now live in a rural area.
Been here for 15 years and so far not a single instance of anything ugly...our neighbors appear to think we're great; they call us for practically any needs...from fixing their satellite dishes to garage door openers and lawn mowers, give them a ride when their car's on the blink...feed their pets when they're away...but we wonder in the back of our minds if there's some screwball wingnut in the area waiting for the chance to do some evil. One thing is everybody knows we have guns and know how to use them.

32. I think you need to rethink you title.
This killer/killers should be in prison whether it is a hate crime or not. No matter why they did it, they killed two elderly men. And although bigotry should be taken into consideration in such a case, the murder itself is the more important crime to be punished. JMHO

And then there are those who say there should be no "hate crime" legislation. This seems to me every bit as disgusting and reason for such legislation as Brandon, Shephard, and the many other crimes against the GLBT community and other minorities.

42. They were not killed "because they were gay"
The article says, "friends say they believe the men were killed because they were gay."

I disagree.

They were killed because of someone's homophobia. Let's change the way we talk about hate crimes to reflect the true motivation. It's the killer's hatred, not the victims' identity.

This is horrendous.

60. Yes, religious leaders are both culpable and complicit, imho.
Although the particular inclination of the homosexual person is not a sin, it is a more or less strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil; and thus the inclination itself must be seen as an objective disorder.

Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (October 1986)
Pope Benedict XVI

There are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family. Marriage is holy, while homosexual acts go against the natural moral law.

Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons (July 2003)
Pope Benedict XVI

AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.
Jerry Falwell

I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.
Jerry Falwell

But I don't believe anyone begins a homosexual.
Jerry Falwell

I truly cannot imagine men with men, women with women, doing what they were not physically created to do, without abnormal stress and misbehavior.
Jerry Falwell

If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being.
Jerry Falwell

I believe that all of us are born heterosexual, physically created with a plumbing that's heterosexual, and created with the instincts and desires that are basically, fundamentally, heterosexual.

53. According to the Bible, the murderer did the right thing.
I point this out because there really is no other basis for hating gay people except for religious injunctions. On the other hand, if one really believes the Bible is an instruction book from god, then this double murder/burglary--a capital offense in this state--would be a logical result of that belief.

Of course, it may simply have been motivated by theft. The writer does not seem to know.
