I think UAW should seek to buy out both Ford and Gm.....
The total market capitalization of both companies combined right now is less than 8 billion dollars.
They could then make adjustments that may need making in the short run to make the companies profitable again, later emerging as two huge and possibly very profitable employee owned companies. Just a thought.

1. They would be the largest labor co-ops in the United States, possibly the world if they did it.
The largest employee-owned corporation today is the Spain-based Mondragon Cooperative Corporation, with a workforce of roughly 70,000 people.

3. I would love to see this happen. Management would be accountable
to the workers.

9. Now that is one really good idea. I can see this applied to so many
areas. Let 'em go broke and then enable the workers to take them over. That is American-know-how at work, a true patriot.:patriot:
:kick: & R

10. That's an interesting idea

I'd even say that should be a condition to any bailout. After all why is government saving these companies? To save jobs. Who will be more concerned with that than the UAW? Let the government give the union the money to buy these companies. We could save GM and Chrysler and still bleed jobs overseas.
