1. Sarah Palin's Clothing Allowance: $150,000
Tue Oct 21, 10:58 pm ET

It appears that the governor of Alaska has got a clothing allowance that's fit for a network TV star.

"The Republican National Committee appears to have spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August," reports The Politico.

"According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74. The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September. The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August," goes the account. "Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin's announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs. Spokeswoman Maria Comella declined to answer specific questions about the expenditures, including whether it was necessary to spend that much and whether it amounted to one early investment in Palin or if shopping for the vice presidential nominee was ongoing."

3. What's the difference between a hockey mom and Sarah Palin?
Answer: A $150,000 wardrobe

by Gina Telaroli

It’s now coming out that the RNC has spent at least 150,000 dollars outfitting Sarah Palin and her family. In a lot of ways this isn’t such a big deal to me, I mean the woman has to appear daily in front of huge groups of people and let’s be honest, you need to look presentable if you are running for VP (or P). The problem lies in the fact that 1) Sarah Palin is supposed to be like you and me and also 2) We are having a huge economic crisis and the Republicans are constantly demonizing Barack Obama’s spending.

1) I don’t know what you might be wearing while you’re reading this, but I can tell you that what I am wearing while writing this came from The Salvation Army and American Apparel. Granted I’m wearing my pajamas, but when I do put on my outfit for the day the chances are high that it will also be from The Salvation Army and American Apparel (where I do most of my shopping.)

2) Given the smear that someone tried to pull on Michelle Obama a few days ago, it is troubling to learn how much Sarah Palin is spending on her clothes. She should actually take a cue from Michelle and learn that you can look great in much more cost friendly clothes from places like H&M. Or perhaps she could simply wear nice clothes but less of them. She doesn’t need 3 or 4 different pairs of fancy shoes, one will do. Likewise for her jackets and skirts.

Ahh well. At the end of the day this isn’t so important but given the reason people like Palin (she’s like us) and the criticism the McCain campaign is laying on Obama concerning spending, I find it to be relevant and interesting.
