Chalk up another early death for Generation X
Another old classmate of mine died last night at the ripe old age of 41. I can't even count how many of my old friends aren't around anymore. Tim wasn't a close friend but one of those guys that remembered you from school and instantly befriended you because of that. We didn't really know each other well in school as he was a year ahead of me but in later days we used to frequent the same watering holes and became pretty good aquaintances then. Tim was just one of those positive beings in the universe who was genuinely nice to just about anyone he'd meet. He leaves behind a fiance. I don't even know how he died as the obit didn't say, but that's just too damn young for any reason. Good journey to you my friend. Sleep in peace.

Thought I might get at least one "virtual hug" around here for mourning a friend. Guess not. Thanks DU.

3. I'll give you one
I'm technically a baby-boomer at 48, but I've always identified more with your generation than mine. Forty-one is far too young to leave this earth. Good thoughts to you and your friend's fiance, and restful journey to your friend.

It's just not fair that evil men seem to get to live out their years in this world.

12. Actually it was a two for one sale on grief today
We had another friend, age 50, pass last night from lung cancer that she'd been battling since 2003. She suffered badly in her final months. I'd really like to see our nations average lifespan numbers. I think they're being skewed.

22. Generation X was originally called the Baby Bust.

It's generally thought of as those born between 1961 and 1981...

I've noticed, as I've gotten older, that the "Boomer" labelled has been pasted on anyone who's 40 or older. Drives me nuts...

29. I identify with that split more than the more narrow ones.
Edited on Wed Oct-22-08 10:50 AM by Captiosus
Born in '77, I refuse to believe in the early "millennial" split because I don't fit in with the so-called "echo boomers" at all other than in terms of being tech savvy.

I know I'm painting in broad strokes here and I mean no disrespect to the Generation Y folks here but most of the millennials I know are greedy, materialistic thugs who believe they're owed everything because they exist. My stepson is a great example. Despite being repeatedly told otherwise by his mother and I that he's not entitled to anything without working for it, he can't get it past his skull. He thinks because he graces us with his presence he deserves everything in the world.

Most of the people I've met in the last couple years who openly complain about having credit card debt problems are 23-26 years old or so. The ones who got out of college and went on a debt credit spending spree, figuring that money was theirs so they were going to do whatever they wanted with impunity.

30. Yeah, me too.
I feel an affinity for those born about four years before me (I was born in '68) all the way up to those born in 1980. After that, not so much. Anyone too much older than me is still steeped in the sixties, could even have been an original hippie. I think being a teen in the sixties and seventies was one generation, and being a teen in the eighties and nineties was another...

18. I'm waaay older than GenX..
but it finally occurred to me that there is only two possible futures for me:

1) I will bury my friends

or

2) They will bury me.

Either choice sucks bigtime.

All we can do is march on and live well.

27. I know the feeling...I've lost SO many people over the last 5 years.
So sorry to hear of another one.
As my dad told me once, the pain never goes away-
but eventually it transforms into a constant reminder that
you loved and were loved by someone.
