The Republican Party spent $150K to dress up Palin and her family
The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

1. I am again reminded of an Esquire magazine issue of around 1966.
Esquire magazine took three Bowery stumble-bums off the street and did a "before" photo shoot. After an expensive makeover on them, Esquire did an "after" photo shoot.

It was astounding. There were the winos looking every bit like the upper-class alcoholics that water at the country club every night. Tweeds, cashmere sweaters, expensive haircuts, and the rest of the works .. and there they posed. One had a martini in his hand, another a champagne glass. The third had a frosty mug of ale.

I always wondered if those winos got to keep the fancy threads. Lipstick on a bum, as it were.

3. To quote a well-worn aphorism this go-round: You can put lipstick on a pig....
but it's still a pig.

You can put costly Armani suits and Louboutin shoes on
a sleazebag, and she's still a sleazebag.
