Poll question: So how many of you will go back to your lives after the Democrats and Obama won
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 11:33 PM by Ichingcarpenter
I'm 'concerned' about this because I think its the biggest mistake
that an aware Democracy can make.

If you think these guys will give up their local power
providing you with strip malls and then taking them down
to promote another then you are in error.

Your local government, your state representative and judges you elect
will still continue to make decisions based on corporate and selfish needs.

You want change but it happens locally.

You want better schools then don't let the nuts overwhelm
your board.

Just because we might win, the battle doesn't stop there.
The developers in your local area will still build strip malls
for a profit.

5. They do it here still without thought
Let the one fail, then move the next one further out
on undeveloped land so you have to drive more.

Then ask your local services to provide for it in taxes for roads, lights and bus service.

A Cancerous type of growth...... the local planning boards and commissions
need input for the 21st century using a livable green approach for
the community.

7. fight fight and then fight
I hate to be serious, but getting Obama in the house is only the beginning. The GOP will not stop, they did not stop back when Clinton came in, and they will not stop now. Add to this that a lot of people that never had the guts to admit they were bigots will find a warm embrace by the White Collar end of hate, the ones that realized a suit was better than a white sheet. Expect the plutocrats to fund armies of talking heads, especially to rebuild the web of self delusion most Americans lived in before their 401k tanked and the medical bills came in. Expect many of these wretched Calvinist churches to be nothing more than the equivalent of the Al-qaida based Madrassas in Pakistan; they both want the SAME thing, and do not care who they have to hurt to get it. Expect books like "the bell curve" to come back, and expect the GOP to market racism in slicker packages. Rush of course, will go full steam. Expect the poor to be demonized, expect the same sorts of class warfare we saw in New Orleans, where the rich do everything short of shoving people into gas chambers, because prisoners are good for cheap labor.

Also, expect the extreme left of the world to try and backstab Obama every chance they get, because they think that he will be an obstacle to societal collapse, the one they think will let them recast the world in their image (instead of just making sure the poor die harder.) They hate the idea that Obama might do some FDR style reforms, because they think that if FDR did not come in, there would have been that happy revolution Stalin and Trotsky promised. Also, while Hillary and Bill have gotten on board helping Obama, expect the DLC DINOS to do everything they can to get their power back, even if it means helping Sarah Palin run in 2012. They do NOT like the fact that Dean's 50 state strategy would be proven right, and that if we just tried the old tricks of focusing on Blue States and BIG donors, we would very likely be having our heads handed to us yet again!

I do not see one reason why this site should close shop, nor smirking chimp, nor Huffington Post, Daily Kos, nor Air America, because we, here on the internet, were the one force that is able to counter the corporate media. If we go, Murdoch will put something in our place. We need to STEP IT UP until we actually get REAL media exposure, until Liberal views are on the television. Rachel Maddow is a nice start, but not nearly enough.

Yes, it is a fight, but it will be one worth having.

There is a movie that is considered a gen X standard: "Fight Club." In it, the main character states that "we had no great war, no great depression, our great depression is our lives." Well, I have news, we DO have a great war, and oh yes, we do have a great depression. At the end of the movie, the character realizes that he has been duped all along, and is looking at twisted image, the self delusion of what he THOUGHT he was supposed to be, what he thought he wanted. He looks at this image, and says, very calmly, "My Eyes are Open"

Our eyes are open now, and we have not yet begun to fight.

8. Most likely start pressuring Obama to adhere to progressive policies despite "tied hands."
If he wins, that's where my fight will likely begin. No more 'dry powder' if he wins. And if he loses, chastisting of the Democratic party for not taking a stronger stand for challenging fascism/stolen elections.
