You might want to watch NBC Nightly News tonight. They had a report

about the fighting in Afghanistan last night with a second report being broadcast tonight. They are following a single unit and indicated that the news on tonight's report would not be good. Not to be ghoulish or anything, but last night's report seemed to indicate that we're putting guys out there in fixed positions to get shot at. It's not to knock our troops, but it looks like if you take a position, the other guy can find you but you can't find him because he can hide.

2. I was just sick watching last night's report. It was like their orders were:

"go out and be a target. You can shoot back if you can see anything to shoot at. Good luck keeping healthy with no water and good luck keeping your weapons working. Try not to get overrun."

If you read Charlie Wilson's War, you know that our CIA thought it was a real hoot what the Afghans did to Russian prisoners. I wonder how much laughing they'll do if any of our guys get captured?

4. Yesterday's NY Times had a piece about how...

the Taliban is stopping busses and executing every male on board, claiming they're on the way to fight the Taliban in Pakistan.

Nobody's on the way to fight the Taliban in Pakistan, but it's a terror tactic that works-- the population is shit scared of these maniacs.

We completely lost Afghanistan and it's going back to what it was before we even thought of the place.

5. As I said in another thread, 60 Minutes had a somber Afghanistan piece on Sunday.

They concluded that the U.S. forces in Afghanistan are bracing for a massive assault this winter from pro-Taliban forces operating out of Pakistan.
