LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - At a recent event for Republicans in Hollywood, an actress was asked whether she had ever worn her pro-Sarah Palin pin to an audition.

"You must be joking!" she said with a laugh, adding, "But I see Obama stuff all the time."

It's no secret that the entertainment industry is overwhelmingly liberal -- political donations this presidential cycle from the movie, TV and music industries recently were running about 86% Democrat versus 14% Republican. But being outnumbered is one thing, but being bullied by your liberal co-workers into keeping your opinions to yourself is quite another.

Is that what's going on? Yes, say many of the industry's conservatives. That's why secret organizations with such names as "SpeakEasy" and "The Sunday Night Club" spring up every so often. They're not conservative per se, they just let it be known that attendees of their gatherings may freely discuss politics without being chastised for not toeing the liberal line.

"Are you kidding me? Of course it's true," Kelsey Grammer said when asked whether the town is hostile to conservatives. "I wish Hollywood was a two-party town, but it's not."

Yup - that's what generally happens when you're in a business in which it is a part of the job to constantly walk around in someone else's shoes.

The vast majority of actors are liberals. The actors of note who are conservatives seldom play different types - often as not they only play variations on themselves.

And sure, there are plenty of people who are in Hollywood who are not actors - but it is a truism that the cameraman and the gopher, the screenwriter and the makeup artist all came to Hollywood to act. They've had the experience of being different people, looking at the world through the eyes of another. And that's a large part of what it is to be liberal.

Years ago I attended a perfomance of Richard the Second starring the ego happy Kelsey. He was drastically late for the perfomance, so much so that the audience had to wait outside for almost an hour. Rather than be ashamed of his arrogant behavior and breaking of Union rules, this ass hat literally paraded through the waiting crowd, with questionable bimbette on his arm. Actors are required to use the sage door, but Kelsey in his coked up frenzy went right to the front door of the Taper and banged on it until someone let him in. The whole time he and his date waved and smiled to the highly annoyed crowd. A vulgar display by a self indulgent twit. Kelsey was so fucked up for so many years that rather than complain that he is not welcome to trash minorities in public as he'd like, he should be thanking the good liberal hearts of Hollywood for giving him millions of dollars worth of work even after his drug, alchohol and sex addictions were well known.
As far as the play, Kelsey rushed and sweated through the first two acts, finally hitting a nice stride in the third, then delivering the last two acts as if he were an iambic zombie. The worst display of etiquette and the worst performance by any major actor in a lifetime spent attending such events. If I ever see that Repbulican, hate filled, nasty man I'll have nothing to say but "give me back my $120 for Dickie Two Eyes, you fraud."
But I'm sure he's a great guy if you get to know him.
