What are *your* voting rules?
Mine:

1) No straight ticket voting
2) No voting for downticket candidates/intiatives I know nothing about
3) No voting for uncontested offices

Rule #3 means I filled in only about 33% of my ballot in 2004 - living as I do in Texas, land of the uncontested Republican. :eyes:

1. No Republicans.
In NY, candidates can be endorsed by multiple parties. So, one person could be the official Democrat and the official Republican on the ballot. In that case I usually go with the Working Families Party candidate, which is almost never a Republican.

3. Privately introduced ballot initiatives are almost always deceptive.
States really need to make some laws about that. Even after I read up on them, I'm rarely sure if I'm casting the right vote.

11. The Democratic and Republican parties
generally have Voter's Guides will offer guidance. The Democrats around here are woefully inactive and ineffectual so I generally go to the Republican site if I need help and just vote the opposite.

4. No republicans
Vote every issue
If I can't stand the Democratic candidate, I don't vote for that position

And when there's not a Democrat running, I vote for the Libertarian.

7. I've always had only two rules on voting
Rule 1. Vote the straight Democratic ticket.

Rule 2. When in doubt refer to Rule 1.

12. Not one republican has wanted to listen to me, not one republican gets my vote.
1. Every Democratic Candidate gets my vote, but I am not voting 'straight ticket'. (Sometimes straight ticket refers to a button on the electronic voting machines and those machines make sure Obama doesn't get the vote. There are other threads here on DU about it. Don't believe me, research yourself.) I am going to patriotically vote each candidate individually.

2. I researched the local items we are voting on. I know where I stand on each one.

3. Give up on the friends who are obviously lost.

4. Never let them do this again.
