New England in danger of losing it's lone Republican Rep.

New England's lone House Republican is mounting what could be the GOP's last stand.

US Representative Christopher Shays, of Connecticut, the last remaining Republican representing New England in the US House, is fighting for his political life against a rising Democratic challenger and a backdrop of generalized voter anger and uncertainty.

A poll conducted for Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper, last week found Shays trailing Democrat Jim Himes 48 to 45 percent. While that is less than the margin of error of 4 points, the SurveyUSA poll seemed to show movement from a poll conducted in late September by Sacred Heart University that found Shays up by 10 percent, with 29 percent undecided.

.....

"This is a very Democratic district. Undecided voters tend to break against incumbents," said Wasserman, noting the September poll that showed 29 percent of voters still undecided. "If you are under 50 percent of the vote in a heavily Democratic district and you are a Republican of any species, you are in trouble this year."

12. That is what they said about the Democrats after 1994
Remember in 2000 when the Cabal took over they bragged about a Permenent Republican Majority..As long as Democrats always put the people and the country first they should do fine but they haven't gotten off to a very good start in that regard from 2006 victory.. If they had put the people and the country first instead of their own political careers then we would see some accountability of the crimes committed by these Republican thugs that have run America into the ground these last dozen or so years..

14. The Democratic party didn't fracture after 1994

Right now the Republican party is tearing itself apart.

They're turning on each other and ripping themselves to shreds.

I can't say I'm not enjoying watching the spectacle.

4. Shays has been a Bush lap dog for years.
He is finally getting his just due. Years ago he use to be like McCain was. He use to be moderate. Now he is close to being toast.
Jim Himes is a great Democrat that worked hard to defeat Lieberman.

I suggest any DUer with a few extra bucks should go to Jim Himes web site and donate a few bucks so he can keep up the good fight.

15. Shays has always managed to survive.
And he's been aware of the politics of the NE. We'll see if he's like Chafee.
