We, baby boomers were at the forefront of the stopping of the Vietnam War
and now we are at the forefront for bringing this tyrant to his knees as witnessed by todays hearings before the house. Its us who are asking the hard questions to make this happen in the first place. I say thank you to the internet, our fingers really do the talking.

1. I'm glad you posted this!
Lately, I've been feeling like we bear the burden for this awful mess we are as a country. We were instrumental in ending the Vietnam War and most of the people I work with today in political action are "60's hippies". I wonder sometimes where the younger folk are but I think that the difference between us in the 60's and these kids now is that most of us didn't have to worry about money as much. These kids today are trying to get themselves through outrageously expensive schools, hold down jobs, help their families...little time for activism. The internet is a great assist but it is no substitute for boots on the ground. Also, I'd love to take credit for bringing down the tyrant but I wonder if is hubris isn't doing him in all by itself!

2. I hope you baby boomers can stop the war with Iran...
Before it starts. Judging from this: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/12/19432/6285

It ain't gonna happen.

4. Don't forget, Bootsie is also a boomer
although I hate the fact that we have to claim him. Plus, there are still a lot of boomers out there who were the backbone of the YAF, the Young Republicans and the Ripon Society in their youth and who spend their time and energy supporting megachurches and campaigning for Repugs. They are a minority, but they are well organized and extremely vocal.

It's always a mistake to label any generation, whether it's the Depression babies, the 20s flapper generation, or boomers.

However, yes, we are used to protest, to raising a ruckus, and pointing out how some of the old ways are just plain wrong and how our country can be made a better place.

I imagine we'll organize food strikes and pickets in the old folks' home.

7. I'm a boomer and I'll tell you the big difference
between Viet Nam and now. THE DRAFT. The reason the 20 somethings aren't in the streets is because there's no chance they'll be going to Iraq unless they have a moment of insanity and want to go. When I was in college, the guys HAD to go. You could get a deferment if you were in college and the SAT scores in high school were tremendous for the guys. If you couldn't afford college and couldn't get a scholarship, you went to Viet Nam. If you flunked out of college, you went. When you graduated, you went. We were in the streets protesting because we couldn't even vote then unless we were 21 and our generation was being sent to die in an unending no win war.
