John McCain, Truth or Scare?

The invention of controversies regardless of the merit of fabricated stories has fueled John McCain’s campaign. He has systematically exploited the fears of 9-11 from the kick off of the Republican Campaign in Minnesota where graphic footage was shown that panged many of us in the heart to the most recent poorly worded robocalls being pushed on the American people in key battleground states.

What sort of person deliberately twists truths to feed the fears born from 9-11? The mere word of terrorist does not come without a price. The majority of us in this Country as well as others have attached a kind of emotion to the word that cannot be disputed. That emotion has been exploited. Yes, this John McCain campaign has used our fears to sell himself to us.

Is it not dishonesty when you deliberately leave out information to spin a version of a story to someone?

I think there is one element John McCain did not consider when he decided he was going to push paranoia on the American people in an attempt to win this election. If we could roll the clock back to the 1980s I think this tactic would of grown a fierce momentum. However, with the use of the internet it has made it possible for information to be exchanged at a click of a mouse. For better or worse you might ask. Fact or fiction, praise or slander, and joy or fear, the internet has no bias opinion, morals, or integrity. You could almost say that we are what we absorb as our fingers glide over the keyboard or our cursers stream across the screen to destinations that will be informative or verify our positions and fears.

I think John McCain thinks we are not capable of deciphering misleading information from truth. To some extent he might be right for it is our responsibility to search truths out. I know they are buried out there in between ads, blogs, and major networks. As consumers we pour over websites in search of facts just as if we would search for the best quality and value of goods. Some people are thorough, some reach for what is the most easiest and others still might opt to make purchases that support a friend’s business or a mutual belief. We might all be a bit guilty of going to our favorite sites and as our eyes flow over articles that support our views we scream out, “I’ll buy that!”

Perhaps John McCain might sway the gullible into believing his smearing and self serving statements at the expense of distorting the truth but he will not of swayed those of us who approach things with dignity and caution. I am appalled at the tactics I see from his campaign. It is insulting and destructive. It is not just a lie to sway the vote but it is a lie that touches us in a way that sparks an emotion of fear and uncertainly. I wish to leave you with one question. Is this what it takes to be a leader?

1. mccain is only hurting himself
8 years of bush, the economy in tatters, and facing high oil prices with a colder than normal winter being predicted - people are angry and worried

this is not the kind of climate where a candidate who is a virtual clone of the current administration should be running negative ads - especially at this level of fear and smear AND in the same mold as the current administration.

The way a candidate runs their campaign is indicative of how they would run their administration. It's insight into what kind of a leader they will be.

If bush had done a fair to good job, if we weren't in two wars, if the fundamentals of our economy were truely strong - mccain's campaign might have been different. What the "rabid-foam-at-the-mouth" tactics reveal is nothing less than desperation - it's attack-crush-kill-destroy. This is EXACTLY the wrong direction.
