Bwahaha! Just heard on Fox News re: Obama's tax plan -
Not sure who the commentator was - but...

The guy was bitching about how Obama's plan of raising taxes on those that make 250k+ per year is SO unfair. Paraphrased:

But what about the people in the big cities where the cost of living is tremendous? What about the poor people in NY City that are trying to survive on 250K/year and barely making it? Those poor people are trying to raise their families and are living from paycheck to paycheck!

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Never mind the fact that MOST people in NYC (I would assume) are making far, FAR less than 250k and trying to get by. But who cares about THOSE PEOPLE - those poor people that make a quarter of a million? It brings a tear to the eye.

They really ARE getting desperate, aren't they?

2. People could always give their tax cut to a 250K household.
If they feel that's more fair.

3. Ha ha ha ha!!!!
Know who those people are? Those with the highest 5% of incomes, that's who. And besides, they got their tax cuts all during these past 7 years and 9 months. Guess what, they don't get another on top of that. And they didn't need one to start with.

18. My in-laws said they heard on Faux Noise that Obama was going to raise everyone's taxes
And they asked me if it was true. I told them that was a lie, that Obama will raise taxes only on people making more than $250K a year, and that this was the richest 5% of people in the country. I also told them to watch something besides Faux Noise because it's a Republican station that tells one lie after another.

8. Unfortunately I CAN imagine that.
I'm hoping, however, that MORE people will be watching that and thinking... :wtf: I'm sure there were a lot more residents of big cities watching that make well under even 100k than there were people watching that made the 250k. Perhaps the complete disconnect from reality will finally turn the light on for at least some of those people.

7. Most people in New York City are making less than $250K
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 03:46 PM by Zensea
I live in NYC.
Most people in NYC are making less than $75K if you want to get even more specific.
I'm not going to go track down the stats but the last time I did I'm pretty sure I found that most people in NYC are making less than $50K.
It's not really like what people stereotype it as here.
For example, if you work as a cook or in a bookstore, just to give a couple of examples, you're lucky if you make more than $10 an hour.
Even word processors and secretaries in big corporations (who work on Wall Street) make less than $30 an hour (which is quite a bit of money, but is still less than $75,000 a year).

I have looked at the stats recently for the country and as of 2006 70% of the population in the country make less than $50,000 a year; around 20% make between $50 - $75,000.

10. Seems To Me People Always Forget That The Increase
will only be on the income you make over 250,000. In other words, their will be no increase on the first 250,000 you earn. The same applies when people talk about the old 90% tax rate. It never was 90% of everything you earned, only on the top portion.

13. Very good point and one we should make sure that
the fence-sitters and righties we know who spout the "He'll make a tax increase on ME" nonsense should hear from us every time it's brought up.

14. I Think Even Those On DU Forget That Sometimes
I recall a post regarding the 90% tax rate and some being adamantly against it. Suppose, the 90% is only charged on the third billion you earn in a year. Doesn't sound so bad then. In fact, I would love those CEO's to be charged that rate. And if I were making that kind of money, I wouldn't mind paying at all.

15. It's assinine to include cost of living...
Average wage in the US is $50K. Bottom line is that disposable income is not the criteria used. 1.7% of the population make over $250K. that's pretty exclusive!!! If they choose to eat up disposable income by living in a high cost (ie: exclusive) area, that is something they can ad do have some control over...their income to makes those choices possible. 97% of the population don't have the means to even consider living in a high cost of living area. Even within NYC, there are places where the rent/purchase of a home is less than others. Sheesh, whining because their disposable income is low because they live in exclusive areas and drive beemers and hummers makes me sick.
