My friend called me today because her Obama sign was stolen
My friend is almost blind, so she gets very paranoid when someone comes into her yard , it is somewhat violating. She called me and asked me what to do.
I drove over to her house, and yes, it was gone. It was quite large, and I had helped her put it up yesterday. Someone took it during the daytime hours today because she remembered checking that it was still up this morning. She went to work, and thats when they took it.
So I told her, lets call the police and report it. She agreed, and the police were very very very nice about it.
The cops showed up and took a full report .
Then, one of the cops laughed and said
"the other side is getting more desperate..." and he smiled and winked at me.
I thought it was worth mentioning.
We put another sign up in her yard with a sign attached to it that says:
"If you steal this Obama sign, I will contribute 200 dollars to the Barack Obama campaign and report you to the Police Dept.
Have a Nice day!"
Then we ordered a pizza and ate the whole thing.

4. Excellent idea.
I called the police when my first one was stolen (they were also very nice). The current one has been undisturbed since April. I guess the thief saw I was serious about my sign.
Great idea about the note. And the pizza.
We've had a rash of sign theft here near Pittsburgh. I'll recommend the note in addition to a call to the police.

8. That's brilliant.
Let them know that it's against their best interest to remove the sign. I love it.

That is some very smart thinking. Even if they can't read.

13. Do you have any proof of this, QA?
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 06:49 PM by Hissyspit
I've seen multiple proofs of signs being stolen by McCain supporters. I've seen none that they have been stolen by Obama supporters. I'm sure it has happened, but my point is that I believe the vast majoirty of cases are of Obama haters taking them.

14. Ours got stolen too ...
... I'm on the MD eastern shore where I have to pass a bizillion McPalin signs but heaven forfend you put up one Obama one. A big sign erected on the road here (Eastern Shore for Obama) was down in one day. Our sign stayed up about 3 weeks but was gone yesterday. (Sigh) I work so hard on not wanting to defile all those Mc signs and yet ... ugh.

Yeah, they are desperate. LOVE your idea for your friend's sign! :)

16. Did you read the post on Du the other by someone who had a good solution to this problem?
She put a thick coating of vaseline all over the sign!!

Brilliant, right? Maybe you should try that with your friend's sign, too.

21. I don't understand sign stealing. Its so juvenile.
Edited on Sun Oct-19-08 09:03 PM by pending
My dad, who I'm argue with incessantly over politics got his McCain sign stolen last week.

It was almost sort of nice that we could agree on something political, that sign stealing is wrong and ultimately counterproductive.

Those, from either side who get their sign stolen ultimately become only more vocal.
