Election Language *****REMINDER****
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 04:43 PM by bobbolink
We MUST stop using the RW language of "Voter Fraud"... that is a way of painting this as the fault of voters in everyone's minds.

Its ELECTION fraud.

Voters aren't fraudulent.

The voting system is.

Please, let's NOT cooperate with the RW machine!

2. Thank you! Every DU'er needs to read or re-read "Don't Think of an Elephant."

We are so quick to adopt right-wing frames and endlessly perpetuate them on these pages -- e.g., "Joe the Plumber."

3. Yes, ma'am! Voter fraud is as a flea fart to the massive stench of election theft.

:applause:

I guess it's a better way to get it cemented in peoples' minds. :hi:

5. I Used To Reprimand People Bout The Same Thing All The Time. Then I Realized No One Gave A Fuck.
When it comes right down to it in reality, being all technical about phrases and memes is generally only important to us. Doesn't make a difference at all to most people out there, and it wouldn't change their perception, beliefs or intention to listen at all.

We recognize the difference and we see why we should care, but when it does really come down to it we're the only ones that do. Voter fraud, election fraud, phrase it how ya want, the person on the other end of the conversation won't know the difference nor care to know why there should be one.

13. I kind of agree
A lot of people don't think the distinction matters. I'm not sure what the average person would call it when the voting is rigged or the machines eat votes.

7. k&r for a useful reminder.
Language matters, and "voter fraud" is not the real problem.

9. Thank you. It's very sad that we MUST keep countering the RW crap, but that's now our job.
As if we don't already have enough to do.

Thank you for kicking! :hi:

14. There is "voter registration fraud" which is what a lazy stupid
employee of Acorn might do.

There is "voter fraud" which is when someone votes twice, or votes as their dead Aunt Sally or something. (It's very rare)

and then there is

ELECTION FRAUD.. Which is the repug speciality... massive purges of the voter rolls, supression, intimidation, deliberatley miscalibrated machinery.. This happens a lot. Some kinds have always happened.. And THIS is what cost us Gore and Kerry. No question.
