White racists are tired of holding back & are coming out of the closet
White racists are finally coming forward, coming out of their closets after all these years of holding back their ugly rhetoric and vile opinions for fear of being chastised by the dreaded politically correct among the populace.

We've recently seen how the sarah palin supporters behave when they are in large mobs, finally unafraid to voice their hatred on camera. They are so weary of having to speak in code words provided by rush limbaugh for 30 hours a week, and after all these years of wandering in the wilderness and hiding their inner lynch mob mentality, they can now gleefully express what they truly feel about them uppity negroes.

These people suck. These people are assholes. These people make me vomit. I hate these fuckers with all my heart and soul. I live in Missouri and the place is infested with these disgusting lowlifes, and they are absolutely vaporish with hate, and they are no longer making any pretense about disguising their loathsome white supremacy.

When you see them, remember their faces, when you hear them expose themselves, call them out, get in their faces, and tell them FUCK YOU in no uncertain terms.

Been calling it out ever since the BS smear emails on Obama started coming out. Called them out to say it's because he's black -- nothing else! And you are soooooo right, they wanted to hide it, which shocked me!

I mean, I grew up around these people (Western PA...lol...Murtha was soooo right), but have been immersed in it in other parts of the country, too. It's not regional -- it's everywhere.

I refused to let them get away with it because, I knew THEY WANTED TO SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS. They were dyin' to.

When I asked, "Why are you being so politically correct? Isn't that what you've bashed libruls for the last three decades? Why are you being PC pussies?" (I'm a female and I knew that would push their buttons.) Sure enough, they then admit that's what it is and they're terrified "that black man will get back at white people."

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I have to go watch the Bachman tape now. I saw the Kristina Van DeHeuval (sp?) rebuttal but need to watch the vile hatred which triggered it.

6. It's getting very dangerous. Truly.
I'm in a fairly red area of NC (though there is sanity not very far from me).

I was called a "ni**er-lovin' terrorist" the other day at the gas station. If I didn't have a child, this would be a no brainer -- I'd be in their collective faces nonstop because this has been a battle of mine for 40 years, being raised in an almost violently racist family.

The thumper, Moral Majority crowd are also a personal battle -- their hypocrisy has always nauseated me and I found them extraordinarly dangerous.

Now, with Palin, it has all come together in a perfect storm.

I either fight it all full force (which I so very much want to do) and put myself and possibly my child in danger, or I back off and pray the truth prevails.

Look at my post below. I know what this person is. It's a fan of David Duke. Head over to General Discussion. There's an interesting post in there thinking back to Rwanda as well as an interesting post of what we will face.

Whatever it is that posted this nonsense - it's obvious it's a bigot.

Man - I hope the moderators let this post and responses stand. All of us a D.U. cannot grow complacent and think that this 'whatever it is - it's not a human being touched by the light of God' - doesn't exist and walk amongst us.

10. Uh
Go back in time - you need to check yourself. We have people who are black in this country - and can trace their black heritage back for six generations - that all of a sudden a fair child shows up in thier families?

No why? White men raped black women that they subjugated and held captive as slaves for a very long time in this country.

Enjoy your stay at D.U.

Head back over to Freepland. I know precisely WHAT you are. You are not a 'Who'. You are a WHAT.

Bow. Curtsey. Proud daughter of a black man and a white woman who have been married close to forty years - and when that Army Officer and Former Green Beret who took a few bullets for assholes like you in Vietnam and Korea was stationed at Fort Knox with his pregnant wife . . .

Got ran off the road by the likes of you.

When you see that couple in thier burgundy Envoy passing through Kentucky on their way to visit his family in Alabama - don't try it. He has a license to carry a concealed weapon and he will retaliate the way most Green Berets from his era will - he will shoot you wear he sees you standing . . .

7. Racism has become OK for them to display publicly again
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 07:07 AM by WallStreetNobody
These people were always dumb bitter racists but now they suddenly feel its become OK for them to express it publicly again since its egged on by the McCain/Palin campaign as well as right-wing hate radio and Fox News. Part of it is done in code like "he's anti-American, unpatriotic, actually muslim, unknown origins, foreign sounding, terrorist-sympathizer, will fill his cabinet with people like Al Sharpton, his wife is a black panther" etc. etc. And of course that has gone on for so long and become the central piece of McCain/Palin's campaign, right-wing radio and Fox that its even become OK for them to openly just say things like "n*gger". McCain may call them the "fringe" element of his supporters but that is a HUGE fringe and it is being fueled and exciting by things McCain and mostly Palin are saying right in their stump speeches. They will likely go down as running the most racist, hate-filled, sleazy campaign in history which is a big achievement given what we've seen out of Rove the past two decades.

12. They've Never Been In The Closet
We just didn't see them as visibly as we do now. They've been polluting hate radio and the teevee for years...they just used codewords and dog whistles.

The GOOP has long cherished its "Southern Alliance"...how they had trained the corporate media into believing that no candidate could win the Presidency unless they carried the South. The atrategy replace outright racism with a more sophisticated and systemic one. You didn't attack the person directly, but as we've seen with the Ayers smear, guilt by association works as well.

For years, Rushbo has gone on every day about the "Plantation Mentality" of blacks and religious radio has painted "A-rabs" as the utlimate in evil...and not to mention the anti-Hispanic, Homophobia and mysogny that are the staples of the AM radio dial. Tolerance = weakness in their books and the common hate is the only thing holding the flailing GOOP together.

17. I thought the Bradley effect thing was not applicable, but as a white male
I am seeing it more and more, hearing it more and more. People dont want a black man in the WH and are not afraid to say it aloud. Should not be suprised. Course I live on republican row here in Florida for the past 19 years. The McCain lawn signs are popping up evrywhere there was never before.

The one thing that makes people like this hesitate: the thought of a woman in the WH. We woulda heard from all the same people ifn' it were Hillary. McCain screwed up when he pick that one for VP

The only saving grace: its a generational thing. They will be gone soon

25. I'm not sure its just a generational thing
because these people will be teaching the same things to their kids, and its often entire communities that are like this. I must have seen over a dozen of these videos so far and while there are more older racists in them they also have many young ones. And even though the majority of college students are progressive there is also a movement of college students that are part of the Limbaugh/Hannity crowd. While the racist population (of all races) will probably grow smaller over time, I think it will be several generations before it becomes an insignificant portion of the population.

43. I have to say I agree with you about the generational thing
I was trying to explain to a young man in my town , who is 30 years old, what it was like in the 50s if you were gay or black. He sat in my living room, with his mouth open, when I told him that being gay in the 50s meant complete anonymity..you did not even speak of it.Being black meant you were relegated to a non-person status , a lesser person . I was sort of delighted to see his shock at what I was explaining, because his world, now, sees gay people all the time on TV shows, sitcoms, reporters, etc..Its part of the social fabric to him..same thing with being african american..its part of his social fabric and its a no brainer to a 30 yr old to vote for a man for pres who is black. He just sees Barack as a man, the colour of skin means nothing to him.
On the other hand, my mother, who is 83, still thinks in stereotypes. She cannot get past them.
Yes, a whole generation of folks will move on, and the new social network will be much more open and tolerant, thank god.

Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 08:10 AM by Hubert Flottz
who is a WWII vet and a man who I've known ever since I was a kid.

He told me, "I'd sooner see a black man in the White House come January, than the Devil." He went on to state that, "I never thought that a black man would be the one to lead America out of the wilderness, but I guess I've been wrong."

This is a man that has been a republican all his life and his father before him was also a republican. I couldn't believe my ears when he said, "Lord Willing I'll vote for Senator Obama on election day."

This man said the very same thing that I've said here on DU many times, "I'm sick and tired of being lied to and looked upon like I'm a fool."

37. But at the same time...
...formerly silent white people are standing up, and in whatever way they can, talking BACK to these people. Some do it by getting up in their faces -- completely fine approach, by the way -- and others take the gently mocking or sad/disappointed or quietly reasonable approach. Although it can be extreeeeeemely satisfying to verbally clean someone's clock, there are times when other methods are more effective, if the goal is to get these people to DROP this shit and move into the 21st century. I don't want them to go away -- I want them to CHANGE.

White Southerners who've seen racism for what it is and utterly renounced it -- now that's a beautiful thing.

I definitely believe in treating others as you would like to be treated and policing your own. If you happen to end up around people making bigoted remarks, call them on it. What I mean by policing your own is not letting your perceived group get away with bigotry and intolerance because they're on "your side". IMO silence in these situations is unacceptable and enabling. Some people are far too reluctant to take issue with folks in "their group." You dislike bigotry and intolerance? Stand up to it and don't make exceptions when it may be more uncomfortable for you to do so. I try to be firm, fair and consistent.

39. Exactly.
My mom did that with one of my cousins just the other week when my cousin made a bizarre, out-of-nowhere racist remark at the family reunion: "I'm so glad we don't have any black people in the family." Mom said, "Oh? I think it would be AWESOME if we did. I would be completely fine with that." And she did it in her super sweet, very rational way. I'm sure my cousin is STILL mulling that one over. She absolutely wouldn't have expected that response.

Love your nickname, by the way!

42. Well
Edited on Sat Oct-18-08 10:20 AM by LatteLibertine
props to your Mom. I've lived in majority minority areas all my life. I've seen it all.

There are plenty of decent African-Americans out there I'd be proud to have in my family too. The same may be said for some Latinos, Asians and folks from the Middle-east.

It amazes me how some are willfully ignorant. Often these people have little real experience with the groups they dislike. Others have one bad experience with a person outside their group then transfer said experience to the whole other group. It's unfortunate.

Empathy and compassion are key. I wish more tried to see themselves in "the other". IMO that's part of the answer, as is seeing each person as an individual rather than part of some flawed stereotypical monolithic group.

I hope an Obama presidency helps us work against some of these things. Even from a purely symbolic standpoint it will be a good thing.

40. I was never exposed to these scumbags until I moved to Florida
My town in Ohio was so liberal when I was a kid that I really thought racism was all something in America's distant past. Our classes in school were very mixed, and since I lived close to OSU there were people of every imaginable race and Nationality around me. The first time I became fully aware of racism was when my elementary school screened the series "Roots" for us. I was a sensitive kid, and I was so sickened and horrified by what I saw that for months later I felt very embarrassed and ashamed to be white. But I still thought that racism was like slavery-a thing of the distant past. When I moved here to Florida I heard a white person used the "N" word for the first time, and I remember shaking with rage because of it. Now with so many of them crawing out of their holes like cockroaches, I'm having nightmares! Seriously; I've been having awful dreams about rednecks teaching their children how to hate and whipping up mobs to attack random black people on the streets. I hope that it never comes to that-I mean hell, most of those people are cowards at their core, but some ARE completely deranged. I live very close to a large African American neighborhood, and I worry that some kook might take out his frustrations with an Obama win on my neighbors. I wish we were a more evolved species. :-(

41. every human being's ancestors are from africa
thats what is so ridiculous about racism. every human being is related by mitochondrial dna from 7-15 clan mothers in africa according to the human genome project. we all come from the same source. africa.
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/summary/271/5254/1341a?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=&fulltext=dna+africa&searchid=1&FIRSTINDEX=0&resourcetype=HWCIT

so, basically, every human being living today is african american if they dig back into their dna far enough.

but he or she might be an african norweigian. But you're right and that's why I think we should just delete that idiotic term "african-anything".
It makes no sense because of what you said and I can't believe everyone isn't offended by it. I don't want anybody calling me a european-american...I've only been to Europe one time and I didn't even particularly like it! - I like Asia a hell of a lot more but I don't think there's any chance someone will think I'm Japanese. :D

50. hating racists and being angry about it is silly..
Martin Luther King Jr. was sprayed with hoses and imprisoned by racists and yet didn't preach hatred on animosity against them. I really don't know the proper thing to do with racists except that they aren't necessarily stopped by getting in their face.

My grandfather is in his mid-80s and says ignorant things about blacks and Jews but I'm not going to get in his face and yell at him.

The issue of racism isn't that straight forward when friends and family who are otherwise good people are racist or say ignorant things.

54. There are sociopaths and racists in every country-
and now that these issues are out in the open, what do we do about these elements in our society?? This is an opportunity to learn.

Education? Enforcing hate laws? Changing the tone of our entertainment so we tell stories of people who overcome adversity in non violent ways, ect?

These are serious social diseases, and I would love to see a future where we learn what to do to decrease the proliferation of fear and isolationist behaviour in our country.

It can be done without infringing on first amendment rights.

56. Racism is a luxury we can no longer afford, and Senator Obama wants the racists' votes too.
Invite them to vote for Obama. We can't afford to insult anyone right now. As hard as it is for me to not insult racists, and as much as I despise their bigotry, I can't afford to let my anger alienate voters who might be swayed, for once, to vote for, and not against, their own self interests.

Obama is showing us the way.

This thread is informative too. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7503571

57. There really is no logical reason to vote for McCain
McCain is the next term of Bush #43, and few people advocate more of Bush.

The only reason left for people to vote Republican is a vote against Obama. The reason a person would have to vote against Obama are clear
