1967 NY Times article raises some questions regarding McCain's story about his capture in Vietnam
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/flash/politics/20080203_MCCAIN_TIMELINE/content/pdf/19671028.pdf

“It was almost three months ago that the young, prematurely gray Navy pilot was sitting in a villa in Saigon, sipping a Scotch with friends and recalling the holocaust that he had managed to live through. He was John Sydney McCain 3d, a lieutenant commander.”

In McCain's 1999 autobiography "Faith of My Fathers" he says he turned gray during his captivity due to the torture he endured, but the article, printed the day after his capture says he was "prematurely gray".

McCain's autobiography also claims that the Vietnamese did not find out for several days who his father was, but the article from the day after his capture says the Vietnamese broadcast an account of his capture detailing who his father was.

The Pentagon confirmed today that Lieut. Comdr. John S. McCain, 3d, described by the Hanoi radio as the son of the commander of United States Naval Forces in Europe, was captured in North Vietnam yesterday.

4. yes he took liberties with the truth then and now
but it is the ones he is taking now with his claims about Obama that should be the focus. why engage in the same tactics that the repukes did in '04 especially when it is mot needed?

If fact say he is a war hero of yesteryears thank him for his service, but he is not in touch with today's world or average American's needs, in short stick to the high ground.

5. In what manner is this similar to the attacks on Kerry in '04?
I don't see the similarity at all, we have documented evidence that McCain was indeed lying in his autobiography, no such documentation existed for the claims about Kerry.
