Twins Say McCain Too Old For Presidency

Economy Turns Twins, 86, First-Time Voters

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A slumping economy has twin sisters Stella and Marcella John planning to do something they have never done during their combined 172 years of life: vote.

Too Old To Vote? Twins, 86, Say No

The two 86-year-old women, who grew up during the Great Depression, told TV station KCRA 3 that the economy changed their minds.

"It's bad, and we are very frugal," the Johns said.

With the help from their neighbor, Craig Allen, both Stella and Marcella filled out a registration form in time for California's Monday's deadline.

"I guess (you're) never too old," Marcella said.

Allen said he was surprised to learn that the Johns had never voted, and two months ago started asking the twins if they would vote for the first time in the 2008 election.

"I said, 'Do you want to vote?' and they kept saying 'no,'" Allen said. "And just the other day they said 'yes.'"

The twins said they hardly ever disagree and have even decided to vote for the same presidential candidate.

"We like Obama. Obama is young," Marcella John said. "John McCain, he is nice and all, but he is 72 years old."

The twins said it took them a while, but they now realize every vote counts.

3. This *is* an excellent story!
I love all these previously non-voters popping up all over to vote for Obama; I personally know of three people in that category! :bounce:

6. I can't help but wonder WHY they never voted though.
Maybe if more people took voting more seriously there would be less people like that?
