Sketch out a scenario--plausible or not--in which McCain turns this around and is the next president

Mark Mellman, Democratic strategist:
McCain only has two possible roads to victory--direct Divine intervention or Democratic complacency born of over-confidence. The first seems more likely to benefit Obama, if anyone....nothing that has occurred of late suggests G-d is very happy with the way Bush/McCain have been running the country. More...

Dean Baker, Co-director, Center for Economic Policy Research:
Senator McCain captures Osama Bin Laden, and personally turns him over to President Bush in a ceremony on the White House lawn the day before the election.

Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Professor, Harvard Business School:
McCain could win in a fairy tale: the Dow soars to 14,000; the Grinch dissolves thereby producing record Christmas spending by Halloween; a cold fusion breakthrough is announced that will produce cheap, clean energy; demand for U.S. products surges overseas, manufacturers re-open plants and offer bonuses to workers; and McCain holds the magic wand. More

Felicia Harvey (guest), Editor, BlackPoliticsontheWeb.com, FL:
Ronald Reagan rises from the dead to endorse McCain. He promises to give all Americans free gas for his entire term of office. California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, and Massachusetts all decide to secede. Then McCain has an outside chance.

John Theobald (guest), IT Manager, GA:
Easy ... independents and undecideds actually THINK before they vote. :-(

Fred Clarke (guest), President, Mobile Company, CA:
As a ardent supporter of Obama, I can unfortunately see several scenarios that could result in a win for McCain, none of which requires a miracle. Scenario 1: Powell does not endorse Obama, but instead endorses McCain. While Powell is perceived as a critic of Bush policies and the war, he is still a Republican. His endorsement could be taken as an endorsement of the war and a hit on Obama's approach to rogue nations. More

3. my scenario involves a military coup and thousands of disappeared
sort of like this one:

Just prior to the capture of La Moneda (the Presidential Palace), with gunfire and explosions clearly audible in the background, Allende gave his (subsequently famous) farewell speech to Chileans on live radio, speaking of himself in the past tense, of his love for Chile and of his deep faith in its future. He stated that his commitment to Chile did not allow him to take an easy way out and be used as a propaganda tool by those he called "traitors" (accepting an offer of safe passage), clearly implying he intended to fight to the end.

Shortly afterwards, Allende died. An official announcement declared that he had committed suicide with an automatic rifle,<29> purportedly the AK-47 assault rifle given to him as a gift by Fidel Castro, which bore a golden plate engraved "To my good friend Salvador from Fidel, who by different means tries to achieve the same goals."

4. Does anyone really have to post The Nightmare Scenario?
The Nightmare Scenario involves radical rightist wingnuts, and chunks of lead alloy flying at 500 mph or more.

I was ten years old in 1968. So that's my fear.

8. The bounce he is currently getting post 3rd debate continues.
Right now, Obama is still well in the lead, but that lead appears to be falling slowly but steadily.

It is far, far too early to rule out a McCain victory, and will be until Bonfire Night.
