16. It seemed like they were trying to zoom-in on the mole on Rachel's neck.
But basically just a supremely unprofessional move. Here's hoping Rachel (perhaps with Keith's help) gets a cameraman tossed.

28. The assumption that people in charge are by default male isn't a small issue
Attitudes won't change unless such things are pointed out, since it's usually something that's done without even thinking about it by well meaning people.

And the camera zoomed in and out on her during her own intro.

She needs to replace that pastel eye shadow with something smokier.

15. Holy crap... I think I see what you're talking about.
Someone at the MSNBC camera's was going crazy with the zoom. That was supremely unprofessional, and the cameraman should be publicly exposed (or at least within the industry) to insure he doesn't get another job outside of Fox News.

26. Drove me nuts on the interview she did last night on NSA
story she did with James Bamford and the female whistleblower. I believe the interview was pre-taped and was wondering if they did it in a section of the MSNBC lunch room there was so much back chatter.

I get the feeling MSNBC tries to run things on the cheap!

I think most of the camera work is done these days by robo-cameras from a control room. Must've had the low-wage trainee weekend staff in charge!

38. Yeah, that has been a recurring problem on Rachel's show, and it's infuriating.
The camera thing was an aberration, but I can remember at least a few times when it sounded like there was a cocktail party going on just off camera. The Bamford interview was seriously marred by it, to the point that you could see the distraction on Rachel's face. Very unprofessional. Keith would have thrown someone out of a window for that. I hope Rachel understands that, with the ratings she's gotten, she is in a position to be vocal about shaping up the production values on the show. Friday night was very "public access".

27. Rachel lives in Massachsetts. I sometimes wonder if she is broadcasting from
a local NBC affiliate, rather than from the NBC studios in New York or New Jersey. That may explain the somewhat less than perfect production and lighting, also most of her guests are video conferenced rather than in studio.

... she's right there.

There's no way she could do that from Mass.

because I still can't believe they gave her a show. She reports the truth in a very charming way. I have been Soooo suspicious? So is it to put a Dem. on the air, fuck her over and make it look like she just sucks? Come on, WHY did they let her on the air?

33. During her 9 pm broadcast on 10-17-2008 ...
... there were many weird visuals, such as going to black, her camera was zooming in and out seemingly out of control and without regard for being "hot."

The worst one was the miscue at the top of the show.

It goes from Olbermann to her open as Maddow does a voice over.

She starts her VO, then the screen goes black--as she continues her VO--then her open rolls, she restarts.

Hell, it was yesterday, but I can't remember the sequence of fuck-ups. But, it was on live, and on a major cable network, during a highly rated program.

It reminded me of the time when there was a strike against the networks and they used amateurs during the newscasts. Stupid mistakes for a full 30 minutes. I don't remember who was striking who, but I can't recall any live reports from the field.

Someone should lose their job for this.

Not the interns or camera people or even the audio person, but at the producer, director level.

It was embarrassing.

36. I finally wrote her an email, not busting her chops specifically, of course.
It's not her fault. During the first couple of weeks I thought the odd miscues and strange noises were just part of a new show, and people syncing up and getting used to working with each other. But it's been over a month, and stuff like that shouldn't be happening any more.

The audio problems are what really bug me; there's this weird high-pitched beeping noise that happens with regularity, and her interviews sound like they being held in a bus terminal.

I doubt it's sabotage, but she's got Keith in her corner if that's the case.

40. It's rachel@msnbc.com
If you check out the top right box at the MSNBC site:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/

under 'The Rachel Maddow Essentials', it says "Email us at Rachel-at-msnbc.com". Not really the best way to write it, since people might not click on that link which opens up your email program, but just read it, and use it on their own. Which would mean 'Rachel@msnbc.com' instead of 'rachel@msnbc.com'. Maybe it gets sent to the same place, maybe it comes up invalid, I don't know. I just use the one I gave.

42. This should posted on kos because Keith is over there
maybe Rachel too. Maybe they're here, also, but Keith posts on kos alot.

I noticed those bizarre aberrations with her show also. Very irritating. Can't believe it's a national show.
Heck, even in my special little bfe part of the world the news production isn't that screwed up and this is with
people locally that can't spell or know any grammar.

43. It's the noise that bothers me
Shuffling papers or shuffling feet, people talking and laughing, and just general noises. Then comes the lousy camera work.

Rachel's show deserves much more than she gets. It is a program I won't miss, along with Keith's. In fact, if I can, I'll turn it on at 8 and not turn it off until Mathews or the other guy comes on (can't remember his name, right now). Then I'll usually tune in for the wee morning re-run. I hate missing an evening, and curse Friday nights when they limit their re-runs - especially if I missed them earlier. And I especially curse MSNBC for playing all those jail shows.
