Obama Camp Connects ACORN Probe to US Attorneys Scandal
Add the Obama campaign to the growing list of players who think that DOJ's election-eve investigation into ACORN is a repeat of the politicization of the department that we saw in the US attorney firings scandal.

"With this voter fraud (investigation), we're seeing an unholy alliance of law enforcement and the ugliest form of partisan politics," Bob Bauer, an elections lawyer with the Obama camp, said just now on a conference call with reporters just now. Bauer compared the decision to launch the investigation with the US attorneys scandal, in which several US attorneys were fired for their unwillingess to pursue politically charged cases, including voter fraud, with sufficient aggression to satisfy the Bush administration.

Bauer released a letter sent to Attorney General Michael Mukasey calling on him to have the issue taken on by Nora Dannehy, the prosecutor he appointed to investigate the US attorney firings.

House Judiciary chair John Conyers, as well as David Iglesias -- whose firing as US attorney was a direct result of his reluctance to pursue GOP-pushed claims of voter fraud, according to the recent OIG report -- have also connected the FBI's ACORN investigation to the kind of politicization exposed in the firings saga.

5. Office of Partisan Investigations.
We need an OPI department in the Obama administration where good citizens can send all their complaints of criminal departments that were co-opted by party politics.

7. At Least It's Being Called Out This Time
The previous efforts didn't get anywhere near the attention we're seeing this year and I think it's helped several of these caging efforts flame out...Michigan, Montana and now Ohio...shining some light on these rats makes them go running for cover.

The tainted reputation of the DOJ will make any claims of "fraud" prior to the elections look highly partisan and toxic. While it'll give Faux Noise and Camp Gramps a distraction to play with as the election winds down, it's net plus is truly a net minus as the past political antics of the Justice Department make any current investigation highly suspect. They need to have actual video of Mickey Mouse casting a vote...and who knows, maybe they do.

Here's hoping for a large Democratic wave on November 4th...one so strong it energizes Waxman and Conyers to go full tilt after all the criminals in this regime...not only make it a mandate for change, but a mandate for justice as well.

8. Imho, we have to help the Obama campaign call this cr@p out.
If they go too far out there, it will rebound on them. But, we can write up a storm, post to comments sections, email reporters, & etc.

11. I Think That's Helped So Far
The blogs exposed the Michigan caging scam and forced them to back down. I'm pleasantly surprised in the Ohio ruling today and hope this emboldens the Obama campaign to call out other efforts. Actually I hope Sarah Barracuda keeps using ACORN and "voter fraud" as red meat...it just shines a light on all the games being played; especially the ones by her own party.

Cheers...

14. I wonder if there's anyone left at DOJ of Comey, Goldsmith ilk?
I mean, there have to be agents still in the FBI or lawyers at DOJ who know this is a total waste of time and will say something about it. Right? One assumes most of them are professionals and still take their role as public servants seriously. One assumes . . .

This is what we get IMHO for NOT going after the GOP election fraud more aggressively as it
became clear they've been stealing elections since at least '00.

Karl Rove and the Republicans Forced U.S. Attorneys To Pursue Voter Fraud Allegations, Despite Lack Of Evidence. According to the Washington Post, "a New Mexico lawyer who pushed to oust U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was an officer of a nonprofit group that aided Republican candidates in 2006 by pressing for tougher voter identification laws." The article reports, "that strategy, which presidential advisor Karl Rove alluded to in an April 2006 speech to the Republican National Lawyers Association, sought to scrutinize voter registration records, win passage of tougher ID laws and challenge the legitimacy of voters considered likely to vote Democratic."
The strategy relied on three efforts: "Tax-exempt groups such as the American Center and the Lawyers Association were deployed in battleground states to press for restrictive ID laws and oversee balloting. The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division turned traditional voting rights enforcement upside down with legal policies that narrowed rather than protected the rights of minorities. The White House and the Justice Department encouraged selected U.S. attorneys to bring voter fraud prosecutions, despite studies showing that election fraud isn't a widespread problem."
Reaction to the FBI investigation leak:

-- Iglesias yesterday called the leak "a scare tactic" and said
"I am astounded"
-- House Judiciary Committee John Conyers (D-Mich.) has strongly criticized
the leak

Background
David Iglesias, former U.S. attorney of New Mexico in a PBS Interview on July 7, 2007, http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/330/david-iglesias.html

-- "I was aware that the Justice Department was interested in having
U.S. attorneys investigate and prosecute voter fraud going back to
2002...I set up a taskforce in September 2004 to investigate...We looked
at well over 100 cases ... Upon reviewing the evidence and looking at
the FBI reports, and actually talking to the FBI agent in charge of
this, I concluded, as did the public integrity section at main Justice
and at the local FBI office, that we didn't have any
prosecutable cases."

-- "They singled out ACORN Reform Now] as an entity that they thought was engaging in this systemic
election fraud."

-- "...putting pressure on the U.S. Attorneys to try to file
indictments immediately before an election...is inappropriate. In fact,
there's a longstanding policy in the Justice Department to not do
that. And it appears, in some districts, there was pressure put on us to
engage in unlawful activities. And that is not what the Justice
Department stands for."

-- "You have to understand there are approximately 4,000 federal
criminal laws and we're tasked to enforce them all ... it's
impossible to enforce every possible law. So every administration has to
come up with a list of priorities and this was a priority every two
years during the election cycle for the Bush Administration."

-- "...there was a Republican attorney, Pat Rogers, who was a
prominent local attorney who tried to pressure me to come up with
cases...I did not know at the time that he belonged to an organization
called the American Center for Voting Rights. He did not disclose to me
that he was representing any other interest. And I've also found
out that the Republican Party was very interested in stamping out what
it believed to be instances of voter fraud."

23. Are they going to go on TV and make these charges- or just on Blogs?
I got real excited about this an hour ago- but so, far, it's just blog talk on a late Friday afternoon. Swing-voters & LIVs are probably NOT going to go to these links.

Should I expect to see Obama surrogates making a big push on TV? I hope so.

26. There are so so SO many serious prosecutions that need to take place,...
,...to deter the politization of (and abuse of power by) the justice department.

Frankly, there are many serious prosecutions involving mass fraud that also should take place to deter future abuses of power.
