Barack Obama in a commanding lead while plumber takes a dive (Cambodian Times)
I learn more in about Plumber Joe from the Cambodian Times than any any other single-source MSM news outlet in the USA. How fucked-up is that?

(down in the story)

Meanwhile, the story of Joe the Plumber, which received wide coverage during the pre-election debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, has become an embarrassment, after revelations Joe is not licensed to do his plumbing job nor has he paid taxes for some time.

After John McCain held Joe up as the typical, hard-working American taxpayer, it was revealed he owed nearly $1,200 in back taxes. Joe, whose name is Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, actually questioned Barack Obama about his tax policy on a campaign stop near Toledo, Ohio.

Ohio state and local records have shown Wurzelbacher has no plumbers license, which he needs to continue doing work in the area.

Wurzelbacher also owes the state of Ohio $1,182.98 in personal income tax. In January 2007, Ohio's Department of Taxation filed a lien on his property, which will remain until he pays the debt.

The "plumber takes a dive" jibe in the headline makes me wonder if some Cambodian headline writer is familiar with the old joke about the plumber who is so screwed up he has to take a job as a scuba diver for Roto-Rooter. That plumber would be Joe: "Git 'yer wetsuit on Joe, the McCain/Palin bullshit has clogged the sewers on Main Street."

All the news that's fit to print .. direct from Phenom Phen, Cambodia (only 11,000 miles away!).

2. McLuan Is Smiling...
You, too, can be an international star for 15 minutes...literally. This is such a textbook example of how the media news cycle works and its huge footprint.

Joe the Plumber probably thought he was gonna be a big star...outspoken and ready to take up the cause for the "common man" (translation: frustrated white middle-aged male) and he was ready to ride the wave into the limelight. I had initially heard he was ready to head to New York for the morning teevee shows and someone started to dig and said "not so fast".

Camp Gramps attempt at finding the "middle class" guy turned into a bust...and in spectacular fashion. This dude didn't even get his engine warm. But then, this didn't matter as all Camp Gramps was hoping for was a distraction for the debate so that Gramps could pretend his tax cuts for the rich weren't as bad as Senator Obama's tax cuts for the middle class...confuse people and hope to nullify this big Obama advantage. In the end, Joe will go back to obscurity...a frustrated dittohead.
