GOP retreats into McCain 'Death Watch'
GOP retreats into McCain 'Death Watch'

October 17, 2008 - 6:34am.

In the Washington offices of the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, anxious staff members spend more times polishing their resumes than working towards the November election.

While claiming publicly they will "fight to the end," the GOP is in full retreat, sensing a landslide that will not only sweep Barack Obama into the White House but will add to Democratic majorities in Congress.

One RNC staff member circulates a daily email called "The Death Watch." It contains the latest poll numbers that show GOP Presidential nominee John McCain falling further and further behind.
It's over," says one angry Republican operative. "McCain has blown it."

1. You're wrong. I heard that he's got us right where he wants us.
Seriously though, nineteen days can be a long time. Long enough for Israel to take out reactors with our covert blessing. Until the election is declared good for Obama, I'm not taking anything for granted. Who knows how many voters have been purged.

2. Yup, would not discount the nightmare scenario...
of waking up to a "Dewey Defeats Truman" situation. This race will tighten - they always do. And due to voter suppression, fraud, and maybe a little Bradley effect, McCain might manage to eeke out an EC win. I won't rest easy until I see Obama taking the oath of office.

I'd say it was Bush and Cheney and Karl Rove who have really "Blown It" with the help of all the chickenhawk tax dodging republican drones in the USA!

4. McCain didn't blow it. The Republican Party blew it.
With its hypocrisy. With its lies. With its death and destruction. With its cronyism. With its pushing of idiots like Bush to the top.

Because of people like Rush Limbaugh who spew hatred and lies every day.

The GOP needs to get out of people's bedrooms and start focusing on what really matters to Americans. The GOP couldn't have a good economy if they were in charge if it was handed to them...oh wait...it was. Clinton handed Bush a decent economy, with a budget surplus and a plan well under way to pay off the debt. And Bush had to start a war based on lies. And lower taxes for the wealthiest individuals and corporations in the country.

And now we have global thermonuclear meltdown of the financial markets. In other words, certainly a recession, likely a depression.

The Republican Party is dead. How long it takes them to realize it is another thing. Americans are tired of the GOP's bullshit. The only people loyal to the GOP now are too stupid to know any better, and even some of them are beginning to see the light.

Rest in peace, GOP, and don't ever disgrace American soil again with your hatred.

5. Is it too early to send flowers although I'm tempted
to just send some Bush. Should I send a bouquet or a wreath?

6. The thought of all those RNC operatives suddenly joining the burgeoning ranks of the unemployed
in the midst of a growing recession greatly pleases me. Is that a bad thing?

7. So it's fair to assume if they think their candidates don't have a chance ....

then they will put their remaining efforts into smearing and villifying Obama/Biden
so that they won't have as much of a landslide victory as they would have otherwise.

Wouldn't surprise me. Watch for the RW Radio Hatemongers to ratchet up the hate and lies.

8. Cornered Animals Are The Most Dangerous
As others, I won't exhale until November 5th...and then only briefly. I like to think I'm cautiously optmistic since I've been around a fair number of elections and see things favoring Democrats in this one I have never seen in my lifetime, but I've been fooled before. Plus my distrust for the GOOP and this regime is so intense, I won't put it past them to pull some 11th Hour stunt to try to move the numbers. I don't think we've seen the worst of the "fear card".

Then there's keeping an eye on the current squatters in the Executive...I'm sure this economic "crisis" was the market's reaction to Gramps losing and they wanted their bail-out before the election...many others will come along afterwards and this regime will use its remaining days to bury as many of the bodies it can. They'll need to be watched very closely.

Steady as she goes...this is gonna be a wild finish...Camp Gramps won't go down without one hell of a fireworks show.

10. I agree completely.
While it's better to be in Obama's position than in McCain's, this thing is far from over.
