Sympathy for McCain . . . apologies for Mccain . . . excuses for McCain
How can anyone here justify those expressions here at DU when we are asserting that so much of his agenda and intentions are dangerous, bigoted, and devastatingly wrong? Where do folks here get off defending him in the face of so many of us who would be directly impacted by his fascist, racist, bigoted, warmongering, anti-democratic agenda if he became president?

I'm sick to my stomach with all of these attempts to be 'evenhanded' and 'fair'. He doesn't deserve squat here. He certainly hasn't afforded our Democratic nominee the same consideration.

3. I think Liberals & Progressives are by nature
rescuers of the helpless, hopeless, maimed and clueless.

But in this case, I'll fight the instinct.

4. Who's excusing him? I'm with you, bigtree; there is no excuse.
He's a nasty little man and his true colors are showing.

8. Sorry, I do feel a little sorry for him
He's obviously been broken somewhere along the way. He's seen a lot and been hurt.

I would feel sorrier (more sorry? I'm using sorrier, I don't care if it's not a word.) for the country if he were to be elected. I wouldn't let a rabid animal lead the pack, even though it's a tragic figure. I already feel sorry for the thousands upon thousands of Americans who have suffered under RW policies. I feel sorry for the foreigners killed or displaced by incredibly stupid, failure-all-around right wing foreign policy. Hell, I feel sorry for the plants and animals that've been killed or driven extinct by short-sighted RW environmental policies. Next to all that, McCain doesn't get much of my overall sympathy.

I think this impulse isn't something that needs to be policed or shot down. Liberals empathize, yes? As long as you don't let it rule your reasoning, there's nothing wrong with it.

Besides. The fact that McCain is pitiable only makes it more likely that he'll lose. In the raw, bully-centric subconscious mind of America, pity is for the weak. The loser. McCain is a loser. He acts like it in every way, and even the most dim-witted, ill-informed citizen can smell the rank odor of failure on him.

McCain = loser = lost.

11. it's like this, my fellow DUer . . .
This is me venting. I'm quite certain that the folks I was referring to got my drift. I haven't been shy about responding to their posts. It would not be proper to call a post out on this thread, however.

My feeling is that this is a place where we should be able to vent. Sometimes, though, good, well-meaning folks feel a need to temper criticisms with reasoned (possibly reasonable) corrections. I'm just not in any mood or shape to accept ANY consideration for McCain, no matter if my own values are compelling me to provide balance, context, or rationalization. That's not what I come here for.

13. Oh, well THAT's stupid.
You're talking about "Concern trolls", right? Or those accidentally identified as such, because they act identical...

Eh, they can shove it. There's no need to temper or censor anything here.

Yeah, just ignore them most of the time, and point them out every once in a while in threads like this one. As long as people can be shown that they are wrong, the dynamics of this forum should stay steady.
