"Data-base matching" could disenfranchise millions of Women and MORE!!
My Social Security number is still attached to my Maiden Name. My State Drivers license has my last name hyphenated, with my Maiden Name first and my Married Name second (the usual way). . . In the books at the polling place, my name is just my first name, my two middle initials (I think) and my Married Name.

Sometimes I sign my name with the just the Maiden Name initial as my middle initial.

MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF WOMEN ACROSS AMERICA ARE IN THE SAME POSITION!!

I shudder to think what this will do to people who’s names are not formed in the traditional “wester” fashion… Asian-Americans, Hispanic-Americans with multi-part names.. the list goes on and on..

Ohio’s purging of the voting rolls on this basis is preposterous. By pushing it, the Republicans are TRYING to foment chaos.

5. The fact that women and specific ethnic groups would be disproportionately
effected should make a better case to STOP it when it gets to the Supremes, right??

Someone tell me I'm right..

7. I hope so. It really needs a lot..
of publicity. With the court system the way it is, who knows? Do people in Ohio know about this?

11. Some do.. some don't
The story isn't in "heavy rotation" out there... So someone would have to really watch the Evening News, or read the papers....

6. I got a letter saying they couldn't match my social security card number
with my name. The difference was full legal name - which appears on my SS card and the form when I registered... and their using initials instead of spelling my entire legal name out. So their claim is the name didn't match the number.

This wasn't Ohio, however.

So I had to fax them a copy of my social security card, along with explaining to them that if they wouldn't attempt to change my name by using initials instead of my full legal name spelled out, there wouldn't be a problem. And that THEY needed to correct their records. I also told them that "this military spouse will go to the press if my ballot isn't here in time"

For example:

Solly Chocolate Pudding-Pop (the full legal name that appears on my SS card and voter registration) was written as Solly P Pop on the rolls. And the name Solly P Pop doesn't match the name on my SS card, so they couldn't "verify" it was my SS number....so no ballot.

I'll cast a ballot that I can pick up on post if the "official ballot" doesn't come in time....but I fear my vote will not be counted in that case.

8. I don't know this affects Ohio voter registration, but my lawyer told me
when I married that I could use whatever last name I wanted to use, and could use as many as I wanted to, as long as there was no "intent to defraud".

This was in response to me wanting to keep my maiden name as my legal name but occasionally use my husband's surname in social situations where people knew him and I didn't want to go into some big discussion about why I kept my maiden name.

Of course that was in 1979 and was Ohio law. I don't know if there are election regulations or requirements that pre-empt Ohio law.

10. They will be flagging EVERYTHING that doesn't "match". .
This means that people (at best) will have to file affidavit ballots that might have to be counted AFTER THE POLLS CLOSE .. with the media breathing down their necks, and the brooks brother rioters ready to storm the precincts. .

14. Be sure to vote Provisionally then - they are going to be inundated with
Provisional Ballots and they have'll to count them. I can fully see 1/3 or more of the votes in each precinct, at least those states that are having all these problems. Knock on terrabytes, but we aren't having these problems.

15. this was the first thing i thought of when i heard about "no match no vote" -- my aunt used to say
the only people who change their name are criminals and women when they get married (or divorced, for that matter). i think this 'no match' stuff is going to backfire massively. one can only hope.
