1. Ask them if they are real.
And if you can hold it.

38. why? nothing indicates why they were busted
after all. The only weapons noted were M-16's the cops were waving around. Sadly for all we know that house was targeted at random by someone wanting to make a deal. The concept that cops raiding someone is "good" is tired, and cannot be trusted anymore.

40. well no, that is what they were TOLD
of course they said the same thing when cops busted down a grandmothers door and opened fire on her killing her. And they have used that line aas much as the military has called everyone at wedding parties they bombed (including the kids) "terrorists" or "extremists". As I said before that kind of thing can hardly be trusted.

41. Oh come on...
...if you're just going to insist that every single time cops bust in on someone they are just a bunch of goose stepping jack booted thugs...then how can anyone have a rational discussion with you? Maybe it's just as simple as the fact that they were dealing with hard core drug dealers? Drug dealers carry guns...hard core drug dealers carry hard core guns. Sometimes, in fact most often, things are as they seem. And the exception is the exception, not the rule.

Paranoia the destroyer.

37. actually yes
here in Ca anyway it is bocoming common for people with "fake" badges to use them during home invasion robberies. How they can be told the difference between that and pig/blackwater home invasions is hard to tell...

I had a crack dealer living above our place. Got the whole treatment. Riot gear DEA, battering ram, half a dozen guys with guns drawn. I thanked them very sincerely for getting the apartment number right.

But yeah, the SOP in a potential hostile entry is to arm to the teeth I'm sure.

33. When it comes to drugs and money
Police tend to go "over" armed rather than under. They don't really want to gamble on what dealers or gangs will have to protect their operation. I used to live in Los Angeles and my brother in law was LAPD during the North Hollywood bank robbery, don't know if you might have heard about it. The police tried to take out 2 guys with body armor and full auto AK-47's. It did not turn out real well for the first responders with their 9mm handguns, .45's, or even shotguns. Since then AR-15's have been pretty much standard issue for most police departments in California.

42. I remember it all too well. I live a hundred miles north & got all the live coverage etc...
It was a mini-war zone for awhile, and iirc the cops were so outgunned they had to commandeer some weaponry from a nearby gun store. Blood everywhere, bullets flying. Really horrible.

We think of our own neighborhood as very quiet, but this kind of drug bust can happen anywhere. Drug dealers have enough money to rent a house in a much more upscale neighborhood than mine -- and have done so in the Los Angeles area -- but we found out quite a bit after the fact that a raid took place half a dozen streets over in our tract. My husband's co-worker who told him was rather shaken up.

44. Yep
Most of my extended family was on the cusp of lower to solidly middle class growing up in LA. My mom and dad were hard working and fortunate to move out of the more gang infested areas of town, but my grandmother, where I spent most days before and after school was a poorer neighborhood. I grew up in the more eastern parts of LA county. I knew many gang members in the 80's and 90's when drugs really started to be a commodity. I remember many of them driving the latest model cars at 17 years old wondering, "how can they afford that?". Drugs, especially now with Meth being so popular, can spring up anywhere. Your neighbor can be cooking it up without your knowledge. If it is an enterprise, they will definitely protect their money with the most effective weapons they can find.

36. Most likely not M-16s, but rather the semi-automatic versions.

Unless there was automatic fire or got close enough to see the selector switch, its next to impossible to tell. But its unlikely the local popo were armed with automatic weapons.

A good 5.56 carbine should be in every cop car and in every home.

45. weird update
so the local newspaper is reporting that it was a suicide attempt. My brother watched the whole thing, and he said that they "dragged three people out of the house", one of his neighbors had also gone outside and one of the cops, who had a gun in his hand though not pointing at the neighbor, told them to take their dog and get the fuck back inside the house. He also said that there were unmarked vehicles, state, and local cops, about 20 of them.
